FT Member Kindness Challenge

Hello! On 29 June 2010, I was on UA #551 ORD-LAS. I was sitting in seat 6B in F/C, when I saw a husband help his disabled wife into the 4C, the last seat in the cabin. When he told her that he was not sitting with her, she had that "deer in the headlights" panic look. I overheard him telling the F/A that his wife is deaf and if there is a problem, please get him.

At this point, it was as if I felt my parent's hand (g.r.t.s.) slapping me on the back of the head saying 'do the right thing!' So with the help of the F/A, I gave my seat to the gentleman in 4D so the husband could sit with his wife. I took the husband's seat in 11B for the flight. Yeah, I know! First Class Aisle Seat for middle coach seat, but it wasn't about me. The F/A's were wonderful and brought me things from F/C and the wife was even escorted to my seat so she could thank me. With tears in her eyes, she told me no one has ever done something so nice for her and her husband. Thats when an idea hit me!

I would like to propose a challenge to the FT Members. Since we now get unlimited free upgrades, I challenge us members to do a random act of kindness by giving away your F/C Seat to a total stranger. I'm not saying to give up your seat every time, but once or twice a year would be great! Even if it is a short hop, your actions will brighten up someone's day. I gave my seat from ORD-DSM to a senior who had the thrill of finally being able to fly F/C. When we do this act, please identify your self as a FT Member and post your result on the board. Who knows, maybe we'll inspire others to do the same on the plane or maybe on a future flight. If this idea catches on, we'll be the talk of the F/C's of UA!

So what do you think of this challenge? Am I just blowing bubbles and wishing happy thoughts, or is this something that we FT Members can get behind?

Why am I proposing this challenge? As the line in a movie said, "do what's right, because it is right!"

PS I start the ball rolling and will give up my seat on 6 July 2010 on UA #183 MCO-ORD. Will post the results.

GBU my friend!!

I was touch reading this, and yes I also do that kind of kindness once in awhile, giving my near expire CR-1 to elderly couple stranger that I met on the airport.

Keep this kind of random kindness goes a long way.

Happy July 4th.

I gave up my first class seat from CLT-ORD yesterday to a soldier returning for holiday. As you say, seemed like the right thing to do... especially for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

I'll close this since it is UA specific.
