There's always an army of travelers going every which way and we've seen members help each other out in similar situations in the past. Heck, I'd do it myself but just don't need a mileage run right now.
Anyone traveling this way?

Hi Fred,
I'm not traveling, but I get a sweet discount for Fedex shipping, and could help you out that way.

there are about 4 of them near me
They are offering free shipping if you buy it online. Will they not ship it to you directly? Or you could have it shipped to me, and I can fedex to you.
You also might want to pop in to the StarMegaDo2 Launch Party Thread. There are going to be a few European FTers in LAX in a week and a half who might be willing to mule it for you.

I would highly recommend against shipping to Europe and especially to France. The douane will be extremely expensive. Hand carry is the way to go. I was in LA when the iPad came out and could have grabbed a few, but too late now. Sorry!

interesting topic, sorry I can't help personally but I'm interested on the logistics of such a transaction
obviously it would not be smart to stuff a brand new computer, sealed in its original box in your checked luggage... damage, theft, etc. not worth the risk
taking it in a carry-on would require opening it (taking it out of the box) at the security screening, which would make TSA wonder why you're carrying a laptop in its original packaging... which isn't an issue, but the customs on the other side may ask about the value of purchased electronics which need to be declared I'm sure (is there a tax you pay upon arrival?)
I don't know about Apple, but places like Dell specifically ask you if the computer/camera/electronics you purchase will remain in the United States... I seem to remember something like that, a question specifically asked if the item will be used for export.
So just for my own good, I'm curious how does it work to deliver this favor as hassle free as possible?

I've carried plenty of PC's, Mac's, iPhones, etc. in my cabin baggage to Europe. Never an issue. Just for precaution sake, I take everything out of the box and throw away the useless stuff (who needs a manual?), but I still leave the plastic protection on.

Thanks guys for all the help!
I did manage to buy an iPad on ebay yesterday (an hour drive away from the city I live in) and went to pick it up in person!
I am actually writing this post on it! Amazing device!
Cheers!
