The Second Annual Alaskan Spring Break DO - March 12-14, 2010
Although our first Alaskan Spring Break DO was a small affair attended by a group of hearty (and friendly and funny) souls, we had a great time and vowed to try something again later.
After much discussion and planning efforts by jackal, far less from myself, and some discussion amongst the first attendees on how to handle a second trip, we've come up with the following itinerary focusing on Anchorage and points south.
All are welcome, and despite what you may think, the weather this time of year is generally very reasonable - at least by Alaskan standards. The skies are often sunny, the temperature can warm up into the 40's, and of course there are almost no tourists up here, so it's a much more natural feel.
Come on up to the last frontier and join us - you'll have a blast. And if you don't, well at least you get to go back home...

Friday, March 12 (Anchorage):
09:00 - meet @ hotel - you can stay wherever you like, we'll arrange transport closer in (Sheraton or Hilton strongly preferred)
09:30 - first tour @ airport - Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Staff Tour
11:00 - lunch @ TBD (????)
12:30 - second tour @ airport - FedEx Cargo Operations / ANC Hub Tour
15:30 - third tour @ airport or museum
17:30 - free time
19:30 - dinner @ BOB W's
Saturday, March 13 (Anchorage to Homer):
08:00 - meet @ hotel
08:30 - depart for Homer
12:00 - lunch in Soldotna @ TBD
15:00 - arrive Homer, tour Pratt museum
17:00 - depart Pratt museum, head to Spit and drop bags at overnight
18:00 - hors d'oeuvres @ hotel
19:30 - dinner @ TBD
Sunday, March 14 (Homer to Anchorage):
08:00 - depart for Girdwood
12:30 - arrive Girdwood, lunch
13:30 - snowmachine tour?
17:30 - Alyeska mountaintop sunset?
18:30 - beers & appetizers @ brewpub
20:00 - dinner @ TBD
22:00 - begin departures back to lower 48
This itinerary is still subject to change as we finalize some of the tour details and settle on restaurants. Unfortunately, we need to maintain a fairly rigid schedule since we'll all be sharing a vehicle on the trip to Homer and back. You can skip Friday's activities, but it would be a shame - there's some great stuff in store for those who attend.

If we stick at six this will probably work well - they do one guide to every six riders, so it may still be a "private" tour.
Alternate (TBD) Tour Group:

CDKing

I'll get in contact with jackal ASAP to try and arrange an alternate for you. Am I to assume that those of you not going on the snowmobile/snowmachine tour would like to stay indoors then?
Condo Group:
It looks like from what I can see in this thread everyone is okay with the condo thing?

I will probably be in Shelton, WA the entire month of March and into April. I don't know my schedule yet, but will try to get to at least some parts of this.

You're supposed to cure me of my insanity - so I can appreciate wine. (Looks to see if beckoa caught the reference. If not, he needs to spend some more time at the movies).

Sorry - another silly question. (I'm only asking because I'm considering coming if I can figure out a semi-logical way to get there from YYZ.)
Why is there a vehicle involved? Can't we just fly from one place to another? Or is that prohibitively expensive?
