Great new FT-oriented video
Just came across this video, and wanted to offer kudos to Gabriel Leigh and to those FTers appearing on it, especially Randy.
Highly recommended - http://www.vimeo.com/7167640 Professionally done... IMO it really captures this strange and wonderful obsession. I noted that Mr. Leigh posted a couple of times last year asking for volunteers in the Bay Area to be interviewed - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...ml#post9321791 - but didn't see any responses. |
hi gardyloo,
thanks for posting this link^^^ pity i could only watch the first five minutes, the rest will have to wait three more hours... but dfeinitively a great video to watch! synd |
Thanks Gardyloo for posting the link to my movie, and I'm really glad people are enjoying it.
A big thanks to all FTers out there--this site played a big part in this movie getting made, beginning when I first discovered it back in 2001. -Gabriel |
it is a very way cool video ^ and there's a whole "bunch of us" ;) on facebook who have posted the link on our home pages with the hopes (n.b. hopes ;)) that some (n.b. some;)) of our non f/t friends will/could/might understand ;)

gabriel,
congratulations on the movie. Just finished it and enjoyed it.:-::-::-: i loved the mileage run between CNX and CEI via BKK. and LMAO at the DEA incident. does anyone knows how he was able to get mile by having other people flying the segments? synd |
Ahh, what a brilliant video!
I only got into FT and mile-collecting seriously about a year or so ago, and it has been fantastic already. I have already emailed the video to my friends who made fun of me earlier in the year when i did BOS-LAX/SFO runs while studying for a major exam. They were the most productive hours, studying-wise, and mile-collecting wise. Keep up the good work Gabriel, and thanks so much! Cheers! |

Very well done video. Now I have a little feeling in the back of my head that I might have a physiological disorder for going on a mileage run.. Well, at least I got you guys and gals to keep me company in group therapy :D
|
If I remember correctly, he was able to keep the miles that his Thai employees earned because at the time, Aeroplan (the program he was earning these in) allowed you to designate an 'executor' on your account, giving that person control of your miles, and he did this on all of the accounts he opened for them.
Thanks for all the comments, and please keep sending the video around! Gabriel |

I loved the film! - Even though I have never done a real mileage run; only detours to earn some more miles (it is also not that easy in Europe). Very professionally made, and gives a good insight to non-mileage-junkies...

Watched the video yesterday and ave emailed it to friends and posted on Facebook! I may have to try and find the paper itself and see what all it has to say!!

I knew that voice sounded familar. :p Anyone know the name of the background music to the opening?? dh |
Great video! ^ :)
I saw it couple days ago on Facebook. I hope more people see it. In fact, I wish it was shown before the new movie called "Up In The Air" as a short. So, people 'outside' of FT would understand why we do it. Again great video. ^ |
awesome video (just saw a bit)... gotta check the entire 20 later today. thanks for posting here!
|
great video. Enjoyed it a lot!
|
Excellent!
Excellent video. On Monday I embark on my first award trip, and a first to Thailand and Vietnam. Mostly up front, all thanks to the info here on FT!
This video set the tone perfectly. Well done. |

Just watched it now and loved it ^^
I was laughing so hard about the CNX to CEI mileage run, hiring people to fly... that is so crazy. Will spread the word about the great documentary. |
Shameless plug below. dh |
Looks interesting so I'm downloading it to watch later :)
|
Just finished watching it, it was so cool!!
It captures the spirit of our hobby so nicely ^ |
Just stumbled upon this video.
^^^^^ A wonderful documentary describing why we are so crazy :p I've already posted it to Facebook. Hopefully my friends and family can understand my addiction  |
Watching it now. This is awesome.
|
Loved the documentary and just shared with friends and family. Not sure how I missed it when it was posted last year. Great work!

Very well done documentary. Perfect mix of footage and insightful interviews with some of the more infamous frequent flyers.
Great video to show to friends and family that aren't quite on board with the mileage fetish :D |
That documentary was a real eye opener for me.
When I found this website looking for, as the home page says "general travel information", I was under the impression from considerable reading, that the site was populated primarily by business travelers who were required to spend a tremendous amount of their time on airplanes and in airports as an integral part of doing their jobs. I thought it was mostly about making a necessary drudgery, if you will, as tolerable as possible. I never considered that there is, apparently, a sizable group of individuals that simply fly! The posters in this forum will not detect even the slightest raised eyebrow from me. I have my hobbies that people find to be out of the ordinary as well: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/...3d69b0e73f.jpg Ready to Go by woodyrr, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/3921318...7625311045099/ |
There's a long-standing thread on this production in the CommunityBuzz forum.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...ted-video.html I'll move this thread to the CBuzz forum. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz. |
Glad you put that second photo, I had no idea what that thing was in the back of your truck.

The point being that, as a poster expressed above, I'm sure that friends, relatives, and coworkers of flyertalkers who fly as a hobby and accumulate and spend "miles" are inclined to look somewhat askance at them, but relatively speaking, flyer hobbyists are not any more crazy than the rest of us. ;) I really enjoyed being exposed to a new subset of society. |

Don't want to take the thread too far OT, but it is a decommissioned "air raid" or more commonly known in the midwest, "tornado" siren. I bought it and am restoring it. Here is a link to photos with the story: http://www.flickr.com/photos/3921318...7625311045099/

We all have passion to collect miles.. its interesting to see what we all do on the side.. For myself.. I'm a connosieur of pianos.. |

He's making it into a feature length film and needs backers... Join me in investing in this project. |
An absolutely wonderful thing. Not only put into words but also picture, the exact idea I am repeatedly unable to fully convey to the few people I thought were nuts enough to understand me. Proud to be a mileage junkie (even a newborn one :)). Just backed with what I could at the moment - my first kickstarter participation ever.
