Citi AAdvantage authorized user bonus offer

My wife just got this offer to add an auth user and spend $2000 to earn 5000 bonus miles. Is this a standard offer or has there been any better in the past. Also, since I have my own AA plat card, does that stop me from becoming an auth user on her account? Thanks!

Got a similar offer, but it was to add a user, spend $1,000, and get 2,500 miles. Haven't seen these offers before.

Received a "Add AU, spend $2000, get 5000 bonus points" for my Citi TY card.

It won't let me add my 1-year-old son (invalid birth date error message).

Won't add my wife because I don't want Chase 5/24 to count against her for my AUs.

Guess I'm missing out on this one.

Received the 5000 miles / $2000 offer for a Gold card that has the $50 annual fee just posted. I will see if retentions will give me any offer to keep the card.

Similarly my wife received a 5000 miles / $1000 on a Platinum card. Her annual fee will post in 5 days!! Will call retentions about that card as well.

When I asked Citi if they did a credit report on the new authorized user, they told me 'yes'.

I'm curious how this would affect the 18-month rule? I'm guessing it would be seen as a new application and the authorized user wouldn't be able to sign up for a card?

Anyone know for sure?

THANKS

I'm not sure the Citi person knew what they were talking about. I looked at various articles online (where everything is true, of course) and all the finance sites say they DO NOT do a hard pull for an authorized user.

As far as the 18-month (now 24-month) rule, I don't think it applies, this isn't a new account, just a new user on an existing one.

Nothing for me yet. Are folks getting this via snail mail, e-mail or when they sign in online?

I got the offer of 2,500 points for adding an AU and spending $1000 (on either/both cards). It arrived about a week ago via email. With that stacked atop the monthly 1000 points/$1000 spending retention bonus I can earn 4.5k points total for $1k spend.

Add your alias as the AU.

The spending (per the offer) is based on the account, not the AU alone.

+1 on fredc84

In fact, Citi is prohibited to pull credit unless the SSN holder has expressed his/her approval.

I will play safe for this one and say it will make an impact.

Citi reports AUs as well.
