Amtrak to Choice Transfer ???

Sorry I haven't kept up with this one, but are we still required (2009) to purchase at least $200 of Amtrak tickets to then transfer to choice points?

Thanks

Effective May 1, 2008, the option to redeem Amtrak Guest Rewards points for airline miles, hotel points and experiential rewards will only be available to: 1) Members with current Amtrak Guest rewards Select or Select PlusSM status, or 2) Cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards MasterCard issued by Chase Bank with and Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year. Eligible members are still subject to the 25,000(1) and 50,000(2) annual point transfer caps as outlined in the program Terms and Conditions.
(1)Members that are cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards MasterCard issued by Chase Bank with an Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year may redeem up to 25,000 points per calendar year.
(2)Members with current Select or Select Plus status may redeem up to 50,000 points per calendar year.

This brings in another question

OK. If I spend $200 today on a Amtrack ticket on my card, How soon can I do the transfer? Can I do it toay, after the billing statement, or after I take the Amtrak travel? Also could I cancel the travel ticket (after the transfer) and still retain the transferred points?

After credit card points for Amtrak purchases post to your AGR account--they post as "Chase Amtrak Travel".
As for canceling later--you should be okay for one year. YMMV after that.

OK. Once you have the "Chase Amtrak Travel" can you then do the Amtrak
to CO transfer right away?

yes once agents see 400 points from such purchase (amtrak purchases give 2 points per dollar) they will do the transfer.

Can someone with an eligible AGR account transfer to anyone's Choice account? (i.e. if I needed X points in Choice, could I trade for AGR points from a Select or higher member and have them transfer the points?)

Thanks, I've posted over in CC. Any ideas on valuation of 5K AGR?

I would value 5K AGR = 5K miles to start. However, remember that there is a surplus of AGR points among FTers due to the fiasco of Autumn 2007--but a shortage of FTers who can transfer AGR to Choice!

Yep, that was a disaster. I am tempted to get the AGR credit card just for this but don't want yet another CC. And you cannot transfer an existing Chase card to it.

If I buy a $200+ Amtrak ticket for someone else using my Amtrak MC, will that qualify me to make the transfer to Choice?

Thanks.
