Choice Security Deposits

Hoping for some clarity on how/when security deposits aren't returned. Do hotel owners have to justify retaining deposits?

An Alabama manager posts a front-desk warning about "harsh behavior" leading to forfeiture. No word how that's judged. Nothing revealed in the booking process, as it might mean fewer bookings.

Someone's attitude shouldn't cost $200. And not everyone counts towels or flags the broken chair or missing TV remote.

I have seen the security deposit sign on some past reservations, but never really gave it much thought on it. It might be the franchisee decision, who knows. I also remember seeing signs posted in the room about the towel surcharge if removed. Who knows, maybe it speaks more about the property location, or clientele it serves. This is similar to how some places tend to discourage reservations to people in their early 20's due to partying fears.
