[LONG Question, sorry]
Can anyone help me figure this out? Due to the new website (no statement visible), I cannot understand how these points were computed.
Facts -
1.Gold level = 10% bonus points [ 10% of what $ amt ?]
2. STAY #1 -- 1 nights @ Rodeway, room cost $58 pre tax; $64 all in
3. STAY #2 ---1 night @ Quality Inn, room cost $89 pretax; $99 all in
4. STAY#3----2 nights @ Quality Inn, room cost $86 pretax; $198 all in
5. All nights were paid with Choice Privileges VISA
6. While the first stay at Rodeway didn't count; the second and third stay
qualified me for the "get up to 8,000 points, 2 stay promotion. This really makes things messy to compute!

My understanding of how the points work is that you earn:
5x $1 for stays @ Rodeway
10x $1 for stays @ Quality Inn
Furthermore:
an additional 5x $1 per stay for using CP VISA
and the 10% bonus for being gold.

By Balance before new statement was 16,019 points on 6/30; balance now = 17,927 on 7/5 an increase of just 1908 points.

The puzzling thing is that the activity shows:
STAY #1 - shows 292 points
STAY#2 - shows 979 points
STAT#3 - shows 7,282

I know that STAY #3 has those points added for the 8,000 point deal, but even so, why did the BALANCE in account only go up 1908 points??? AND where do the extra point for using VISA card and Gold status fit into these numbers?

If anyone can help decipher this, I would be most appreciative. I will contact CS for an explanation but have found them basically useless.

And BTW, terms from CP VISA Card:
Earning Points at Choice Privileges locations - Choice Privileges members will earn 10 points per dollar with eligible MainStay Suites�, Suburban Extended Stay�, Econo Lodge� and Rodeway Inn� property stays based on 5 points per dollar earned through the Choice Privileges membership and 5 points per dollar charged to the Choice Privileges Visa card linked to the same membership. Eligible stays at all other Choice Privileges locations will earn Choice Privileges members 15 points per dollar based on 10 points per dollar earned through the Choice Privileges membership and 5 points per dollar charged to the Choice Privileges Visa card linked to the same membership.

I am thinking that the "earn 8,000 points" figures big time into this. I have gathered that for STAYs # 2 and #3 combined, the maximum points I will earn is the 8,000. Not sure how the bonus points figure in, but I am guessing they don't. The deal caps points earned at 8,000.

So, I guess the bigger/real question is - why did my account balance only go up 1,908 points??

You need to understand when you earn which points, not just what points you earn. The credit card points are only earned (to Choice itself) once per statement cycle, nowhere the time of the posting of the points from the stay itself.

The gold points are in addition to the 8000 for two stays.

So for those 2 Quality stays you earned 8261, or 261 extra over 8261. Your rates were $89, $86 and $86 (you don't earn points on taxes/etc), which adds up to $261 $261 times 10 is 2160, 10% of that is 261. So that's why you earned 8261 total, 8000 was from the promo, and 261 was the Gold bonus.

The credit card points will come separately, and not until after you credit card statement closes. And you'll have trouble seeing them on the new site until the new site implements Statements (which they keep promising as "coming soon").

But as to why your balance went up less, I dunno, try waiting a day or two and see if it straightens out.

After spending more time, it seems to have been a timing difference. I "think" it is ok. The 1908 is the points transferred from Barclays to Choice based on 5x points, even though Barclays statement only shows 2x points.

Not having a complete detailed statement on Choice doesn't help any; thanks for listening to me think out loud and rant.
