Slow website?
Or is it just me.
My 'high speed' internet connection is via a cable modem. Basic stuff. No problem with FT or most other sites. I've seen download speeds approaching 1 megabyte/sec, so it's not all that slow.
The Choice site is agonizingly slow. Often, it's so slow it becomes unusable. Page downloads seem to hang, and when I actually do get control back, it's very herky-jerky.
I have similar problems with Marriott, but Hilton seems to have speeded up a bit. At least their sites are usable (AA is another offender).
Is my problem my internet connection, or have others noticed this also?

And sometimes I'm afraid I've jammed it. Especially when I'm (pet peeve) having to call it back from "Distance" to "Price". I think it's more at night (US central and pacific time). I'm always glad when someone posts when I've had this problem, because I never know if it's me, and don't want to stick my neck out if it is. So thanks, BigLar.

If it draws "greyed out" and then hangs, click somewhere at the side of the screen (not in the middle). In those cases, it's trying to draw the annoying popup telling you your session has expired, and clicking outside the popup dismisses the popup. Sometimes, though, the popup itself doesn't draw, but it's still waiting for you to dismiss it! It always makes the screen "greyed out" for me when it's in this state, so I recognize it easily.
Other than that, it's the procedures I have to use (logging out and logging back in, clearing cookies for the individual brands, printing out each reservation as I make it instead of going back to My Reservations, etc) to work around various bugs with the website that slow me down, not as much the drawing of the web pages per se.
(I'm always accessing it from Firefox. Dunno if there's a difference in how it behaves speedwise between browsers or not.)

Can't even get to my account now. Still slow, hotels come up, but never gets to my account, so I don't know what's posted and what hasn't.
For the second largest hotel chain the the world (or something like that), you'd think they'd pay more attention to their website performance.

Still can't access my accoumt.
Is anyone else having this problem? Are you doing anything different that you used to do?
I just got a survey yeaterday when I checked in, and I unloaded on them about their website. I would hope that, since we have a "lurker" here, he might just check out if what I say is true, and then somehow get in touch with corporate.
Not being able to access your accout for days on end is simply unacceptable.

No joy again today. Called Customer Support and got some canned response about 'website problems', blah blah.
Went to the local library and tried it out, and got right in. We're both using Win XP SP3. Came home, cleared cookies and (I think) the cache and re-booted; still no luck. I guess the problem is on my end.
Can't get in with any of my other machines, either. No problems with Marriott, Hilton, AA, BA, my email, bank, etc. Just this site.
I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

But that is an exception rather than the rule.
Usually, the website works well - have never till today needed to call in to the phone line.
You may have a firewall or a anti-virus program that maybe blocking the website.

One thing I've noticed lately by paying attention to the bottom of my browser screen: When a reservation page is loading, after all the visible ads have already drawn, it does a whole bunch of more access to external sites (why, I don't know, since it's not going to display anything more!), and sometimes those take a long time (which may be those sites, not Choice's own site, being slow).
Btw, they know they have a number of website problems (though I don't know if this one is specifically on their list). Among them: Reservations claiming they are not eligible for points/miles/whatever when they are*, and reservations not showing up under Stay Activity. (These two an agent confirmed with me as problems they know about and are working on.)
*I made a reservation yesterday, which was the second one in a row (using Make Another Reservation), and due to the cookie problem or whatever, it said it was not eligible. If I look up the reservation online (have to provide confirmation number and last name, since it won't show under Stay Activity), it also says that. But my email confirmation says it is eligible, and trying to book the exact same night at the exact same SOS rate after logging out and logging back in says it is eligible (but warns me that I'm about to make a duplicate reservation; that's the point at which I called Choice CS about this).

1) Can't access account again this afternoon.
2) Can you avoid this in Firefox with ad block plus?

I don't use ad block plus, so dunno. I notice this more at work, tho, where there's work blocking of some stuff, and dunno if that may actually make it worse or not (depending on how the blocking tool works exactly).

But just to be sure, had you cleared every single choice-related coookie? (They use a variety of webiste, including brand-specific ones, including some starting with www. but other starting with secure., and you need to make sure you've wiped out every single Choice-related cookie when you're having a problem like that that affects some computers and not others.)
But one other possiblity is a URL lookup problem. Your ISP may be using a different URL lookup service than the library used, and if Choice was having a problem with one particular URL lookup service that day, that could also account for it. (Again, while not a problem I've had with Choice before, I have had a problem with one or two other websites before which turned out to be that.) One way to work around that, if you're internet internals savvy and you planned ahead, is if you know the numeric form of the website and use that, instead of the common www form. (But that only tends to work for going there in the first place, not necesarily for navigating there once you're there.)
