PVG lounge question
Hi.
I'll be travelling through PVG on Saturday and have a question about the various lounge options available to *G.
It looks (on the staralliance.com terminal map) that I have a choice of SQ, or 2 different NH lounges. I see there are also SK, OZ, TG, and OS lounges. I'll be hoping for a shower while I am there.
What can anyone recommend?
Also with 3h40m between flights, is it possible to race into town for a quick snoop? I know the Maglev is quick, but not sure where it would dump me off.
Thanks for any insight.

Sure (and I wouldn't bother wasting any energy at all contemplating the lounge issue; if you want a shower, go to the Ramada). The Maglev will take you to Longyang Road, where you can transfer to the #2 metro line and go to Lujiazui (the aquarium is really nice) or NJ Rd. Assuming you get a boarding pass for your onward flight, you can safely get back to the airport 40 minutes before departure, but I'd allow 50 minutes travel time for the trip back because, even though the Maglev only takes 8 minutes, the subway takes up to 20 minutes and the Maglev operates 3x per hour.

I sure haven't been impressed with the NH lounges. Maybe SQ is better but it really isn't that easy (may not even be possible) to go to a different lounge at PVG -- you need the right "invitation" card to get in, they could well not have a clue about the *A rules. If you try it, let us know how it works.
Moondog, do you really think that's enough time to do much other than take a round trip on the maglev? I think what you describe is pushing it for 3hrs40mins.

As far as going into town is concerned, let's run the numbers. For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to assume a noon arrival, a 340p departure and that the luggage gets through checked.
-1240 Maglev arrives at Longyang Rd at 1248
-Subway to Lujiazui, arrive by 110
-1 hour to check out the Binjiang Park and maybe the aquarium brings us to 215 or so
-Get back to Longyang Rd in time for 240 Maglev, which means you'd really want to be on the subway by 220; the 3p Maglev will also work, provided the OP is a fast walker, but I certainly wouldn't plan on taking that train
Now, while the above certainly isn't my idea of fun, it still affords an hour of touring time; plus, the Maglev itself is also interesting/fun. Furthermore, in the event the OP arrives early, the 1220 Maglev might become an option.

Thanks for the info moondog. What you gave me will work out perfectly. I'm actually arriving at 1300, and leaving at 1640, but basically you laid it out perfect. I'll let you know if my flight is on time and if I actually make it into town or not
Thanks again!

Thanks again!
