If you want the sites to save money, then re-orient yourself to flying to Shenzhen instead and research here or other places on the short train ride or coach ride from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. The one-way airfare from Shanghai Hongqiao to Shenzhen is $126 on China Eastern according to ctrip.com. The fare to Hong Kong is more than double that. I have not done this, but i have read about it and it seems to be popular and fairly common. See also this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=692680

You can use either elong.com or ctrip.com. In city delivery, type Shanghai, as that is your origination. It is meaningless question, an anachronism from when they delivered paper tickets. You want an eticket (for several reasons), which requires no delivery. You may have some difficulty paying on line, but be patient and follow their instructions as you go. You might have to sign a letter they give you to protect them from fraud, scan it, convert to pdf and email back. I have done it a few times. The first time, I kept calling China Eastern (in this case) and made sure I really had an eticket. Never had a problem. No advance seat selection, though. It is the old system of those who check in early get better seats. Hongqiao Intl Airport is a nice compact one, easy to use.
