Thanks! I planned on the L visa - just wasn't sure what to put down for length. I guess I will go ahead and ask for the 10 year (not sure if it really makes any difference what you ask for). You are correct that he has a 5 year passport. Will report back once I apply.

That was our experience. We had two-year tourist visas, now we have ten-year tourist visas. The price didn't go up.

All visas are the same price for US citizens.

Anyone have any experience with getting a visa for a minor? I'm taking advantage of the AA mistake fare and taking my 16 year old son with me to PEK for a few days during his spring break.

I'm hopeful that I will be granted the new 10 year visa as I have traveled to PEK twice in the last year on a (now expired) multi-entry 1 year visa. My question though, concerns what type of visa I should expect for my 16 year-old. His passport will have a little over 13 months of validity when we apply.

Any advice as to what to put on the application under the type of visa requested? Thanks!

I was recently told by several visa service agencies that the Chinese consulate in Chicago will not issue a ten year visa (adult tourist) when the (USA) passport will expire in thirteen or fourteen months, but they were unwilling to give a definite date cutoff.

Hello

I have a upcoming trip in May on AA, will be on DCA-ORD-PEK-ORD-DCA and I want to check to make sure I have the relevant documents ready.

I hold both Canada and Taiwan passport and also Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents. I do not have a China visa on my Canadian passport.

I will be going to the US via land most likely so crossing using my Canadian passport, which I assume I also need to present at the DCA-ORD-PEK flight in order to exit USA on the same passport.

When I enter PEK, I will be using the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents only so that should satisfy the entry requirement. Should I show this to AA agent at checkin together with my Taiwan passport? I would think that I need to use my Canadian passport to exit USA properly. Or should I just present all documents? I am under impression that China doesn't like the dual nationality so I should not mention my Canadian passport at the PEK port of entry?

Thanks

Use Canadian passport to get to US.

Show Taiwan passport with Mainland travel permit when you board your flight to PEK at DCA and/or ORD .Airlines are only concern that you have proof of your right to enter China.

There is no need for anyone to know of your Canadian passport or your need to show it to anyone until you return to Canada.

There is no exit control in the US so do not bother to show your Canadian passport. All they want to know is if you are allowed into China so just show your Taiwan papers.

I have a double entry visa and have just entered into Shanghai. I will soon be going to Hong Kong before re entering PRC at Chengdu.
The immigration officer in Shangahi has put a pen mark on my visa. Has he just accidentally marked it as spent even though it is a double entry? Should I be worried about getting back into PRC?

Thanks for your expertise!

Nothing to worry about. The pen mark is to show that it's been used once. Your passport was also swiped into the database and it will be swiped again and stamped when you exit to HK. When you return into Chengdu, the database and the fact you only have one set of entry/exit stamps will tell them you have another valid entry on your visa.

Thanks, so what about when checkin with AA agent at PEK-ORD? I would need to use my Canadian passport to get to US right? Since I don't have a US visa on the Taiwan passport. Will they be checking entry stamp on the passport?

Relax, all the airline's concern is that you are eligible by passport or visa to enter destination country.

So your procedure (tested by others with Canadian and Taiwan passports with visit permits) is:

When checking in at PEK with airline, show your Canadian passport to show you eligibility to board PEK ORD.
China exit immigration - show Taiwan passport with China entry stamp, you will get a matching exit stamp.
Boarding document check by airline staff - show Canadian passport.

I have traveled with legal multiple passport to visit PRC and ROC during the Mao/Chang era many time for business. You just need to keep track of which one to use, when to use each and matching your entry and exit stamps. Keep them in different pocket so you are not pulling the wrong one out when it is not needed.

Should be China's Taibaozheng.

Two observations of my own:
1. Mainland Chinese check-in agents are well-versed in the legality of dual statuses of TW/HK/MO residents.
2. Mainland Chinese border officials do not hinder TW/HK/MO residents' exit due to lack of destination visa, something that they do for Mainlanders.

Thanks, I was just slightly concerned with the AA agents at checkin (DCA) if they know about Taiwan passport/permit and the lack of China visa on my Canadian passport.

Name problem?

Hi

I got another problem potentially on the first name on each the passport, using the example below.

Canada: Lee, Bruce
Taiwan: Lee, Jun-fan
*There is a [Also Known As: Bruce] field in the Taiwan passport, not sure if that helps
Mainland Travel Permit: Lee, Jun-fan

AA tickets are booked as Lee, Bruce

I just realized the problem above since the name change was recently done few years ago after getting the Canadian passport. My question is since the name for the Taiwan passport/permit doesn't match that of the airplane ticket, will this be a problem at check-in and exiting custom at PEK and if so what are my solution?

I am thinking of applying maybe China visa on the Canadian passport but I'm not sure if they allow it since I heard that if one already has a travel permit then visa will not be issued.

Thanks
