Returning to my native China next summer...

I will be returning to my native China next summer for up to 60 days after I complete my last year of high school education and before I start college. I live on Long Island (an NYC suburb), and I believe I will probably depart from JFK and head for Beijing on either 6/25 or 6/26 in 2006. Could someone suggest what airline/route (or combination) I should fly?

From JFK, I would probably go with CA. Even though CA is not as nice as NH, JL, UA, CO, or even NW, that flight really is a time saver and tends to be among the cheapest options, to boot. You might also be able to get the UA code share for around the same price.

Also, if you fly JL or NH, you can sqeeze a free night in NRT on your return, if that interests you.

Bulk fares for next June won't be loaded till April or so, so you should sit tight until then.

One more thing, in order to get the lowest possible fares, you might have to travel during the week and/or delay your return till 9-1 because August tends to be the most expensive month to/from Asia.

Thanks for your input. BTW, another route combination I have considered is AC's JFK - YVR - PEK (AC549 + AC29) and back (AC30 + AC548). Has anyone here ever taken that combination?

which Frequent flier/alliance program do you value most?
if you can get to EWR conveniently, Continental has EWR-PEK on B777s. Personally I like CO's international 777s, nice, clean, free plastic-wrapped individual pillow/blanket/headsets, decent seat pitch in economy, OK meals, and good personal in-seat entertainment even in coach.

I took AC29/30 earlier this year and was very unimpressed. However, I've heard that YYZ-PEK is a lot nicer (on the downside, that flight has been next to impossible to book on the cheap since they introduced it in June).

I hardly ever think about frequent flier programs.

What?!?!? Let the flogging begin.....

It depends on where in China you are going. I've flown UA from ORD to HKG, SFO to PVG and HKG, and NW from MSP to HKG. You can also fly "the other way" and take Air France from ATL to CDG and on to Guongzhou. There are dozens of options. Are you returning to the US?

BTW...welcome to FT. ^
