Chengdu/Chonqing visit

Just resurrecting this thread. I am arriving from ICN around 23:00 and then I have 5 full days in Chengdu. Is taxi/bus/rideshare service into the city an issue at that time?
I have a refundable hotel booking currently.
Just wondering if I should just stick to Chengdu and take some day trips and return to the same hotel at night, or if I should do a 3+2 (Chengdu, Chongqing) via the high-speed rail?
I'll take a look at Chengdu-area day trips in the meantime, and if fellow posters recommend going to Chongqing, then I can factor that in, too.
