"Random" COVID tests returning at PVG

This is confirmed by my colleagues. On their in-bound flight to PVG from America, the entire plane was "randomly" asked to get tested for COVID. And this time, he said the nurse will put TWO sticks, one up each nostril, at the same time instead of one at a time. Related note confirmed by my colleagues: the Health Code is returning in some places in Beijing and Chengdu (not a city-wide requirement yet). There is no official reason given but it's guessed to be related to the pneumonia outbreak in China.

I'd be curious to see as more reports come in if any particular flights get selected more often than others.

How long did the process take? It could be a driver to avoid connecting in China in the next little while.

I saw some random testing at PEK the other day, but it was 1-3 people.

Random testing has been ongoing since mandatory testing was stopped. This is not new.

Not quite sure what you're referring to here. Not heard anything like that for Beijing, and doubt this is accurate.
The random Covid test is more believable. Japan still does that too, AFAIK.

It's accurate as my colleagues in China has been required to have them to access certain places in Beijing and Chengdu. I don't post guesses.

Dont leave us in the dark! Tell us the lowdown, what places in which cities? If this came back again Im sure it would be much more widespread news than what Ive seen.

I was randomly tested upon arriving in Chongqing earlier in the summer. Quick swab and I was off. No need to wait for the result and I never got anything come through to my phone.

I entered at Shanghai Hongqiao yesterday. It appeared that every foreign passport holder was swabbed,
Chinese citizens were randomly selected ( about 10%).
At least these were only cheek swabs, not nasal ones.

Was the swab tied to your passport or BP, or completely anonymous?

Tied to the passport. They scanned the passport, issued a bar code based on the scan, and that bar code
was affixed to the swab.

I went through Hongqiao yesterday as well but didnt see anything like this. Ive had it happen to me at PVG and know its now a public health and monitoring measure rather than a potential incarceration test as it was for the previous 3 years.
