Transit Visa Shanghai PVG

Has anyone gotten a transit visa at Shanghai? How does the process work? I've read that in some airports in China you need to use a special line, also that your airline must enter something into their system when you check in showing you're a transit passenger or you'll be denied entry. And finally that you must ask the hotel or the police to file a form once you're settled. Does this sound right? Any tips? Thanks

Why do you want a transit visa? Shanghai offers visa free transit to pretty much everyone.

No need to apologize. If you stay in a hotel, you will get registered. If you do Airbnb, you probably won't. The latter is honestly okay for now, but you should reserve a hotel anyway, even if you have no intentions of staying there.

Very useful, thanks. I just printed TIMATIC rules and hotel booking as suggested in the wiki, and am confident now I'll have no problem with the airline or immigration.
