Ctrip buys Skyscanner

CNN International is reporting that Ctrip has purchased Skyscanner. No details. I'm not sure what the practical implications are for travelers.

ADDED: The price was $1.7 billion. It's claimed that sixty million people use Skyscanner per month.

On CNN International, Richard Quest has Simon Calder, Travel Editor from The Independent, talking about Kayak etc. pushing people through to fly by night OLTAs and those that charge high fees. An advantage of this transaction is that such problems won't occur if the search tool can control who then sells the ticket to a customer.
