Not sure where to ask this flying AA to PEK do I need a visa ?

As a Canadian planning on flying ORD-PEK in Business class - I arrive in PEK at 730 PM and leave the next day at 530 PM do I need a visa for less than 24 hours ?

Google "China visa free transit" - finding some official info would be the way to go.

I'll move this over to the Flyertalk China forum, where this question is more appropriate.

More information is available in the sticky: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-163.html

Note that "Passengers must have confirmed onward tickets to a third country (not the PRC, and not the country from which they arrived)".

If you return (directly) to a country other than the US (e.g Canada), you will not need a visa.

What is the last departure airport before PEK and the first arrival airport after you leave?
These are the determining factors to TRANSIT without the need for a visa.

We can't tell based on this information. You are ok if it qualifies as a transit.

By way of example, ORD-PEK-YYZ is compliant (assuming nonstop flights).

I think freezefactor is correct. If OP is returning to US within 24 hours, he should have a visa.

OP didn't provide specifics, but the implication I got was that it was ORD-PEK-ORD. That needs a visa since it isn't a transit under Chinese definition. The number of hours or whether one stays in the airport or not is irrelevant. With this specific routing (no intermediate stops in a third country) and no visa, likely he won't be allowed to board the plane in ORD.
