It's possible to get a free six-day transit visa in the Yangtze delta (Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Suzhou).

Isn't transit visa applicable when point of entry and exit are different ? Example
Los Angeles - Beijing
Beijing - Hong Kong

Will transit be issued if I stay 3 days in Beijing and leave from Beijing back to LAX?

Yes. But it would be wise to contact the Chinese embassy in your country.

Check the China Forum for up to date information re: visas. It was really helpful when I needed to apply for a visa in 2014.

There's lots of misinformation here.

It's not a transit VISA but rather TRANSIT WITHOUT VISA.

Check details in the China destination forum.

"Yes" don't cut it here as an answer, and I think incorrectly answers the question. I believe rafernandes is asking if he can stay 3 days in Beijing and come directly back to LAX (LAX to Beijing to LAX) without a visa (TWOV). The answer is no.

Thanks Guys..

The TWOV.. states very clearly.. one has to exit to another country in order to get the 24, 72 or 144 hour visa.

I can come from LAX to Beijing and leave back from Beijing to go back to LAX.

I was hoping to use the Hainan Airlines promo fare.. of $507 (and crediting those miles to Alaska Air)
- from LAX to Beijing or Shanghai requiring a min 3 day stay,
- but I guess it's best to apply for a 10 year visa
- Tickets need to be bought by 2-20 but travel is allowed till 4-30 , so enough time to get visa and get a couple of MR under the belt to get MVP Gold
-which means one can get AA Plat status for the year as well

Out-and-back MR does not qualify for TWOV. Get a China visa for $140 and save yourself the 100% chance of being denied boarding from AUS in the outset.

No, you are reading this wrong. You have to go to a different country than the one you are coming from. You cannot fly back anywhere in the US to get the visa exemption.
As you rightly concluded, you should get the visa. It will be good for 10 years.
