Hotel close to PVG?

Hi all, can anyone recommend a hotel for an overnight stay near PVG airport? I prefer to be as close as possible, and free breakfast/airport shuttle would be a plus. Thank you!

This topic seems to come up around once a year, and not much has changed. Your choices are basically: 1) the hotels between the terminals 168/268; 2) a grossly overpriced Ramada; and 3) a handful of tired Chinese hotels 10-15 minutes away.

I've used the Motel 168, the cheaper of the two located directly above/between the terminals, twice and found it to be OK. It's not fancy by any means but certainly adequate for one night and very convenient if you have a morning flight. I haven't eaten at the hotel but have used the restaurants in between the terminals and in the terminals before security and have gotten good enough meals at them (though stay away from KFC, it's just nasty).

The rooms marked "North" in the Room drop-down list here are the ones in the less expensive side of the hotel: http://www.dazhongairporthotel.com/index.php. ~$75 - 90 will get you a room there.

I've used the Motel 168 countless times for early departures and late arrivals if you aren't staying in the city. Convenient, but not luxury! Thin walls, so it's better to get the only slightly more expensive rooms at the end of the halls. They generally have less noise because adjacent rooms are more likely to be empty.

The hotel on the other side appears to cost more and the only attraction is round beds. That breakfast isn't recommended.

Round beds? Yikes. Are there mirrors in the ceiling too?

Round beds are pretty common in more expensive rooms within that hotel class.

I noticed this place for the first time when I was on my way to the airport yesterday. All I could think to myself was that it looked every bit as dire as you'd expect from a JJ Inn branded property, but with the added bonus of being in the middle of nowhere (even worse than the Ibis near PEK).

A perfect example of an architect who did not have a ruler.

There is a precedent for circles in Shanghai architecture

We all know about the Pearl of the Orient... shown here in the same frame as the BoC Building in Lujiazui:

http://m8.i.pbase.com/g5/59/747959/3...8.AjYFUeVj.jpg

And, then there was the original plan for the Mori Building:

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China_B.../HD08Cb05.html

(Anti-Japanese sentiment forced both the name change and the nixing of the "rising sun" at the top.)

Here and now, the cylindrical Shanghai Tower is nearing completion:

天圆地方

Earth is square ..sky is round.

Has something to do with the style and cost. Buildings cost much more when radius vs straight.
