At first, you should lock your laptop, and then when coming to China, you should find a good hotel which has a good security.

When I travel, I'm more concerned about theft of the data than theft of the hardware.

DropBox is your friend... I hope (because I've stored all sorts of data there, albeit nothing super confidential).
