getting to Dongguan

Having lived in GZ for two years, I feel like I should know how to do this, but alas I'm totally at a loss. I am flying in from Shanghai and need to get to Dongguan in the quickest possible time. I'm thinking flying into CAN and then taking an airport bus might be fastest but I'm sure others will have recommendations. Should I fly into CAN or SZX? Should I go from airport to train station to CRH to get to Dongguan or take an airport bus or even a taxi?

Any advice is appreciated.

I've gone to Dongguan from both Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Neither was difficult taking the train. Many of the taxi drivers seem allergic to using the meter.

Which part of Dongguan are you going to?

If it's points southwest - eg, Humen or Changan - SZX might be better.

If it's the other usual suspects - Nancheng, Dongcheng or Wanjiang - CAN would work.

Changping definitely has buses to both SZX and CAN.

Houjie is a toss-up, and the rest of the city is a tough call. Traffic is bad all over the place, and unfortunately neither SZX nor CAN are near useful train stations.
