As many of you know, I love all things pertaining to water, and the Shanghai Aquarium certainly fits this bill. It is honestly my favorite aquarium in the world (well, my data set is limited, but I've done Boston, Baltimore, Monterey, HK, and Singapore).

That having been said, I don't go to the aquarium very often because navigating Lujiazui is a bit of a nightmare (I still don't understand why so many FTers reside over there by choice!).

Moving on, to get there, take Line 2 to Lujiazui, exit 1 or 2. Ticket prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years (160 for adults, and 110 for kids), but it's well worth this cost.

I'm not sure if it's because today is a holiday or if Chinese are bleeding cash, but it was maddeningly crowded... not just the aquarium, but all of LJZ.

I went there with my business partner and his children. My favorite exhibit was the penguin room, while the kids liked the jellyfish.

I really wanted to follow up the aquarium with a visit to Suntory for some of the best sushi in China, but the others vetoed me, and we ended up at Burger King in the Super Brand Mall instead.

I took some pretty nice pictures over there, but I'm too lazy to post them now (you guys all know what fish look like, anyway).

OT, but I recommend Atlanta, Long Beach, MSP/Mall of America, Sydney, and the small older one in Manley outside of Sydney where people dive with the sharks. The salmon ladders near Seattle are cool too.

ADDED. I've also done Baltimore and Monterey and endorse those too.

Thanks for the heads-up. I love aquariums and always try to visit good ones when I'm somewhere new.

Shanghai Aquarium has some beautiful fish^

There must be some restaurants around Shanghai with beautiful fish. In fact, there are nice carp in a tank that forms a sort of gazebo near the entrance to the Chinese restaurant in Le Royal Meridian hotel, IIRC on the floor below the lobby. Across the street (Nanjing Road) from LRM in the classical department store on the corner, there used to be a huge tank in the window with sharks, but that is sadly gone now.

M1NT comes to mind, but it isn't cheap.

My Company has offices in Lujiazui so I generally stay in Pudong for business trips. Found the aquarium with my wife and child who joined me last year during one of those visits.

I agree with moondog, have to say it was actually much better than expected. I've done Monterrey, Baltimore, Atlanta (which is huge), Boston, NY's which is a tiny one, HK, Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef which is an aquarium itself.

Valencia has a gorgeous one that I've seen pictures from my sister-in-law so that is on my list the next time I make it to Spain.

Try the one in Osaka- it's sure to be a hoot.

The Zoo in Dalian has a good aquarium too, note I am NOT talking about the sunasia polar tourist trap.
