PVG...Term2 to Term1 question

Hello.

I have a question for you Asia-Pacific warriors out there...

I'm arriving PVG on AA183 @ 7:45 PM (Terminal 2)
Then departing on China Eastern for HK @ 9:10 PM (Terminal 1)

I have carry-on luggage only. Is it practical to make a Term2-Term1 connection at PVG after an international flight in 1:25? More pressing - At this airport will I need to pass through Chinese customs/immigration in T2 and then re-check & pass through security in T1?

Appreciate any insight.

Cheers

You'll be fine; the two terminals are only 10 minutes apart. You will definitely need to clear border control in Shanghai. Customs: maybe, maybe not... depends on whether AA tags your bags all the way to HK.

ETA: I just noticed your "carry on luggage" comment. You will pass a customs officer or two during your transfer, but they don't really slow things down.

To mentally prepare: Is there a terminal train @ PVG or is it buses (a la LHR)?

Yeah, the "number 11 bus". (The "11" represents your legs in motion.)

Hi all!

If I arrives the AA183 at evening and my connecting flt to HKG is tomorrow but within 24hours, will my luggage be able to check through or need to do all the baggage claim and check in etc in PVG?

Thanks!

How much time is needed to make this connection? I was told at least 2 hours for Int'l to Domestic from T2 to T1. Is it possible to make this 85 minute connection with checked luggage? I will be traveling in Business class and have priority baggage tags. Does MU close the check-in counter 30 minutes prior to flight departure? Any additional tips will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure t-60 is standard for international departures (including HK). This type of itin is more doable if you can manage to get BPs issued for flight #2 at your city of origin (something that is theoretically possible).

Here my take:
You have to walk from arriving gate to immigration - about 15 minutes
Then pass thru immigration that can be 15 minutes( my experience later in the day, the longer the wait).
Get your luggage usually -wait 15 minutes.
Go thru customs- just smile- 0 minutes
Go terminal 1 -15 minutes
Get luggage checked in- 15 minutes .
Pass thru security-15 minutes
Run to your gate 10 minutes
That about 100 minutes. Your plane maybe a little early and you can make it, but if you do -it will be close. Planes are generally early when they arrive in the afternoon and later at night. You may cut a few minutes on each hurdle, but some could take you a bit longer too!

There is another thread in this forum (SH ground transportation data), which suggests that you're being WAY too conservative here by allotting 45 minutes to a drill that takes most of us 20 minutes on average.

That having said, I wouldn't attempt an 85 minute connection unless it was possible to marry the two itineraries (i.e. confirm in advance).

Moondog you give some great advice in this forum, but I differ on this one.

I been thru the drill about 17 times last five years. I can not believe you could walk out the plane. Take the long walk to immigration, stand in line and pass thru immigration wait for your luggage and retentive it consistently in total time of 20 minutes. Maybe if things work perfectly it would happen once in a dozen attempts .
