You can always go to the service booth at any station and tell the worker there you want to use the swinging gate exit next to their booth. They'll swipe your card and open the gate for you.

At that time, however, if there is no line for the taxi, it will be only 40 mins to zhaojiabang road from PVG via taxi so that may be a better option if cash isn't a concern.

It's a business trip so I'll be reimbursed- not worried about the cost. But it's the last meeting in Shanghai for this project and I'm not sure when I'll have another project there, so I'd sort of like to try the Maglev, just because^ And I'd prefer to try maglev/subway upon arrival so I'm not stressing about missing my flight if I get lost/do something wrong. If it's not going to be crazy busy on a Tuesday night, and I'm not dead on my feet, I think I'll try it:D

So - do I buy a maglev/subway combo ticket at the airport, or just buy maglev and then get the subway ticket at Longyang station? Thanks!

There is always a gate for wheelchairs/luggage, but you have to look for it.

Made the trip last night and it went fine. We landed at T1 around 7:30 (we were delayed leaving DTW because the inbound was late). I was through immigration (& the toilet) and over to the Maglev station by 8:10. Signage was good. I bought a 1 way discount with my same day boarding pass - 40rnb. They were opening the escalator almost as soon as I arrived, so just had to wait on the train a few minutes. Longyang road wasn't too crowded either, and I found the signage to get on the 7line metro (outdoor - but covered- transit, which was nice because it was raining....) 4 RNB for a metro ticket, another half hour, and I was at the hotel by 9:10 or so^, once I figured out which exit to use to get least wet:p

I enjoyed the option! It's possible I might do all metro next time, but I'm glad to have had the chance to try the maglev.

I'm posting today to add some experience wrt Xintiandi.

1) To/From Hongqiao
-take Line 10 (no brainer)
-but, if you a really early flight, be prepared to wait 24 minutes between trains
-I had a 720a flight last month, and had to bail on Line 10 because my timing was sub optimal (taxis are fast at 545a, but not much faster than the subway)
-you're looking at 45 minutes in either case if you nail the subway schedule down pat.... taxi can take almost an hour on Friday afternoons

Is this the best / most efficient way to go from SHA to Andaz? Landing Monday around noon at Hongqiao. If not the subway, what's the best way to get a taxi/car? Thanks in advance!

Line 10 is your best option.

I almost always do line 10 mainly because it is usually faster than taxis in the morning and evening, but with the noon arrival, I'd be tempted to roll the dice on a taxi, especially if I had luggage.

Daytime, I'd still bank on line 10. The taxi queue and awful traffic jams almost 24 hours from Honqgiao to downtown/Pudong included, metro is still a bliss if avoiding lines 1 and 2.

IME Yan'an Lu usually has minimal traffic between 1130a and 230p, and none between 930p and 630a.

I just landed last night in PVG taking a taxi to Andaz Xintiandi, taxi ride from airport to the hotel cost 180 RMB.

Landed after 9:30pm and the maglev train has closed. Forgot how long exactly the taxi ride was, but there was no traffic.

The latter might be true in general, although I do have opposite experiences at around 10 pm but after several nerve wrecking lunch time taxi trips from or to SHA I'd do line 10 without hesitation during the daytime hours.

Keeping the below in mind, on at Sat night, 8PM arrival, Andaz the hotel, should we head for the taxi directly or Maglev to line 2 to line 10 (line 1)?

We = 2 of us.
I've been on the maglev (5 years ago?)

I would certainly do a taxi. In the reverse direction, I occasionally take a taxi/uber to Maglev, but this honestly doesn't save any time v taxi all the way. I actively dislike Line 1 to Line 2 and Line 10 to Line 2.

I was leaning toward the taxi so thanks.
