I agree on that - either everyone is subject to gate screening or no one is. That includes the TSOs doing the screening. It only takes one failure...

Oddly enough, my RDU-DEN flight also had two TSA workers doing ID checks and searches.

Regardless of how terrible that case was it wasn't TSA and even if it was that's not their purpose. Besides, as I read that story it wasn't a gate check that uncovered the child trafficking.

It was a gate check. She had the baby out for the initial security and Xray. She hid it to go through immigration. Delta airlines caught it in the bag as they were doing a gate screening.

Gate checks are when security, such as TSA, recheck passengers while they are boarding the aircraft. In this case the lady had cleared security and immigration and was sitting in the waiting area for her gate.

She tried to get through Ninoy Aquino International Airport security and immigration checks but police pounced as she sat in the departure area this morning.

Check out this video of a woman smuggling a baby out of the Philippines. She pops it out of her coat just like a Kangaroo; https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...tional-TV.html Here is the woman she bought the baby from: https://www.facebook.com/maricriscempron.dulap/friends?lst=1505172647%3A100035020098119%3A1567694 266&source_ref=pb_friends_tl

I'm wondering how she anticipated that the baby could breathe inside the suitcase? perhaps she left it partially unzipped?

Just boarded eAAgle MCI-DCA and the “screeners” showed up at the gate to do searches. They checked the ID and BP of everybody (at least up to group 2 when I boarded) and pulled me aside to check my backpack. The “screener” took maybe a five second look by just unzipping two pockets and didn’t do much else. Pure security theater.
