Along every edge, every seam of the shirt (over the pockets, around the sleeves, over the shoulders, etc) there's a strip of cloudy white that just makes it look like her uniform is filthy.

She's not pleased.

Care to address the TSA's version of the new uniform brouhaha?

Formalde-hype

Kinda sad that the TSA has to farm production of its uniforms out to other countries and not support the country it is "sworn" to protect from terrorists.

Well, it was contracted out to VF Solutions and we all know that the garment industry has long left America for the most part.. the only American based company I know is American Apparel.

The only thing that concerns me is that supposedly that the use of formaldehyde is an industry standard according to a memo we were given, which leads me to wonder.... how much of the clothing I buy is soaked in this?

Not that I have had any adverse reaction... but still.

Does anyone still wonder why thinking people do not trust the qualifications of Kip and the TSA to "protect us from tewwowists"?

Kip and the TSA cannot properly buy a blue shirt. :td:

Why should we trust them to do anything more complicated?

Perhaps we'll find that Offshore Smurfshirts Makers R Us got a real good deal on the blue dye. From a Chinese toy factory. Who had to quit using it because of the lead. . .

What is it about DHS and formaldehyde? Seems to me that FEMA had a major issue with formaldehyde in the Katrina trailers.

You'd think they'd learn, but clearly the agency remains in denial.... and insists on lying to the public (and it's own employees...). :td:

No surprise there, nothing to see folks, move along...

Whoops! Okay, turns out that there was one. Just learned about him today. One of the LTSOs; evidentally, within the first week of recieving the new uniforms, he developed a fairly bad rash that spread over most of his upper body, for which he had to recieve medical care.

Whether the two are related or not is up in the air. It could be coincidence.

Not really. I don't have very much to add to it.

Unfortunately, he can't prove that he gets any value for what he spends. Glad he bought these well-made uniforms instead of spending it on better training or technology. :td:

What do you expect from an idiot - especially given the investment in the new uniforms was for one singular purpose - intimidation.

It sounds like her iron is too hot.

Everyone thinks cotton requires a scorching hot iron, but that's not really the case, and you'll ruin dark-colored cottons by ironing them this way! You need to experiment a bit, and set the iron on the coolest possible setting that will take the wrinkles out.

Dark cottons (and cotton blends) actually are quite touchy, and a real beyatch to iron!

(My mom took in ironing for pin money when I was a kid, and put me to work as soon as I was tall enough to see over the top of the board, so I know of what I speak. LOL!)

I usually wash clothing once before wearing for the first time. Would this have alleviated the rash problem?

I forget whether it was Animal House or Revenge Of The Nerds where someone put a chemical on the uniforms of a sports team and the team members were all itchy.

Revenge Of The Nerds. One of the best movies ever made.

And it was liquid heat in the jock straps.

I loved that scene. I wonder if the TSOs have seen any Nerds around the locker room. (I swear it wasn't me)

It might not be the uniforms. :D

Here is a probable cause ;)

If the rest of us more dignified civilians have to blow through $1,000-plus a year on work clothes, then so should they. They're lucky they even get money to pay for work clothes. I'm so lucky I don't get issued clothes-any skin irritants in clothes, and I'll end up hospitalized. I have atopic eczema and I'm highly sensitive to chemicals in clothing. First job out of college/law school, I expect to spend about $4k for clothes.

Yaatri Jan 9, 2009 11:17 pm

Could it be because they can't keep their hands off underwear in bags? Not all underwear are equal. ;)

Unfortunately, there are no TSA-issed BVDs!

That might be kind of kewl, actually!

As far as the righteousness of getting a uniform allowance: that is one of the perks of the job, meager though it may be. Many employers offer various incentives to attract and retain good workers, ranging from free or discounted food to health club memberships.

Stupidhead, I am confident your future employer will offer a salary and/or benefits to offset your clothing expenses! :)
