Take a look at the 2nd photo, too (>halfway down, under "checked bag tips"). Some 750 year-old grandpa (and suspected Al-Queda operative, apparently) is getting his shoes wanded. He appears to have a leg brace on, an also to be sitting on one of those little scooters that elderly people use sometimes, if they have difficulty walking.

I've had checked bags molested twice since Thanksgiving.

There's a little round orange sticker they put on the bag tag, and some sort of highlighter mark on the tag, too. I didn't notice it the first time until I realized that the contents of the bag had been rearranged. I'm really not cool with this idea for two reasons:

1) How do I know something won't be swiped?

2) If the TSA really does find something, what are they going to do? Page the owner and hope he shows up? I think not.

Both my objections could be overcome by the simple expedient of requiring the bag's owner to be present for any search that requires the bag be opened.

Off topic, OH, there's a discussion of seating size going on over in the In The News thread. P'raps you'd like to participate? I'd really appreciate hearing what you have to say on the matter.

On a TUMI or Hartmann garment bag (probably many more) there are usually 2-3 outside pockets. Only reason I lock them is to keep them from "accidental opening" and thus losing stuff.

So no lock??????????

Cant plastic security band them...no sissors or box cutters allowed.

TSA notsobrights claim they will videotape to prove no theft.

Will DL replace stolen or "accidently" lost items? I think not.

What the hell do they want from us? Drive everywhere? Greyhound?? Quit and stand on corner with an out of work sign?

The TSA also claims that if your bag is locked and is subsequently damaged by them while they "do their job" searching it outside of your presence that they are not responsible.

I'm sorry, this is related to Delta because....?

Recently my bags came in later than I did on a flight into Australia. I asked about how the bags would get through customs prior to being delivered to me. They pulled out a very large string of keys--keys for every bag lock made--and said no problem in getting them open. And they had been opened and looked through when I did get them. So certainly no need to be breaking locks--unless someone is traveling with a 1925 steamer trunk.

Ever hear of combination locks?

Sadly, the TSA thugs have heard of boltcutters.

As I was checking in yesterday in at the NW counter in Rochester, MN, the agent handed my son and I boarding cards and immediately said that our baggage (which had not yet been checked in) would have to be hand-searched prior to their being checked. The bags had not yet been x-rayed. Clearly, we were flagged for some reason . After an extensive search of our 3 ,not-yet-checked-in bags, (all searched in an area, where travelers could see every personal item we had packed) we were then able to check them and get baggage tags. It was all a bit bizarre.

If all you really need is to keep the outside pockets from accidentally opening, then just use twist ties - the ones off baggies. You can hold two zipper tabs together. If the TSA wants to open it, they don't need their boltcutters.
And yes.... this really is not a subject specific to Delta, but thought I'd pass on the suggestion.

I saw the pix in usa today as well. Al-Queda for sure. After ther check his hearing aid and heart monitor the really need to scan his shoes for C4, if he is still awake. Glad to see TSA is at the top of their game.

I too am curious who is going to pay for stolden items from baggage.
