Changes to Opt-Out Procedure at DUB

I was disappointed recently when I flew out of DUB and learned that now, when opting out of the body scanner, one has to receive a pat-down in addition to going through the WTMD. The agent told me the policy only changed a couple of months ago. Does anyone know why they changed it? The old policy, which only required going through a WTMD, was one of the reasons that DUB was one of my favorite European airports to transit before this was implemented. I am disappointed that they added the pat down requirement.

Never flown from DUB, but I am surprised that they weren't patting down opt-outs. It seems like this defeats the purpose of having the scanners, if anyone can just opt out with no further screening for non-metallic objects. Perhaps there were too many people opting out?

Same. Here (USA) you always have the option to opt out, but the next step is a pat-down.
