TSA Pre-check "Flex"

Flying out of BOS a few days ago, had Pre courtesy of my airline, got to the front of the line. The agents with the scanners have some sort of new terminal. I was sent to a line which they said was "Pre Flex" which was sort of like Pre but you had to take out your electronics. Never heard of such a thing. About 4 of us in a row got sent over there. Is this something real/new or just something that they made up to do load balancing? I can't find reference to it. There was talk of a system called FLEX this spring which was some sort of camera-based biometric system, but did not seem to have anything to do with Pre.

Anyone know?
