June 5 security breach at den

Someon just walked past an unmanned wtmd at Denver. He was proudly waving at the people in line while doing so.
TSA yelled at him as he was descending the escalator.

Everything is at a standstill now.

Maybe we can re-name the TSA ("thousands" standing around) to FSA (fifteen standing around)

You have to wonder why some many screeners are standing in a group. Surely they aren't all watching the X-ray screen.

And now Hobby Airport:

Boy Scout's toy grenade causes bomb scare in Houston airport

"My wife and I were waiting to drop our bags into the X-ray machine and go through the detector, and I heard a TSA agent scream 'Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down!' Everyone was looking around, confused, and people were ordered to 'Clear out now!'" the AP's John L. Mone said.

Let's see.

It's shift change and they are all just standing around waiting to start their shifts. It's part of their training. It's a staff pep talk. They're on break and can't think of anywhere they'd rather take a break than standing at the checkpoint, distracting their co-workers.

This must be how security professionals respond under stress. Nothing like being calm, collected, and using good judgement to clear the area of concern. Yes, the marks of true TSA professionalism.

This is how ASKTSA explains screeners standing around:

: “Officers may be on break, training, in the middle of a shift change/briefing, or on any number of security assignments.” Or gossiping, or texting or checking their FB accounts.

BTW, here's TSA's newest response to questions about screeners standing around:

Well, look at the bright side - at least they SAW the grenade-shaped object, recognized it for what it appeared to be, and responded appropriately by shutting down the c/p and calling the bomb squad.

Unlike the 95% of cases where they miss prohibited items, or the millions of times when they confiscate items on the logic that "it might be a bomb" but then treat those items as completely harmless.
