Chicago Midway Security Line

Another reason not to fly over Thanksgiving Weekend. I have never flown through Midway but I know I would be frustrated too unless I had TSA Pre-Check.

Does Midway have TSA pre check? Wonder how long the pre check line was if they had it.

I can't imagine the hell. I would have been carried out in a straight jacket.

My kids were mocking me for having them get to MSP two hours ahead of time. The longest I've ever had to to wait there was 40 minutes and I was afraid today would be even worse. We dropped one at baggage claim because we couldn't approach the ticketing level-it was that backed up.

Security lines like at Midway offer no security. That would be such an easy target for terrorism.

The same could be said for other places with large groups of people.
After all, it would no big trick to cause panic in places like Soldier Field.

Reminiscent of the Soviet bread lines. It's a good thing to remind the citizenry that there's a threat out there that only the government can mitigate.

You dropped a kid at baggage claim? Not a bad idea.

Has TSA ever publicly commented on the risk of coordinated terror attacks at TSA checkpoints? Coordinated bombings isn't exactly an untried terror strategy.

On my way back from the UK I was detained over 5 hrs (in a little room) this was after 2 hrs inline to get to customs and border patrol..

Did I mention I hate it?

As someone who travels for leasure to soccer and college volleyball games I am happy the last FIFA date for an international match is about mid November so I get home just in time, but thanksgiving week is usually conference tournament week in college volleyball. Hope I never find myself flying on the Sunday after thanksgiving.

Last year I flew on Thanksgiving day and the TSA checkpoint wasn't very long in PHX, but still took longer than it should have due to all the people trying to walk through with crap in their pockets.

DEN was busy, but not crazy. MDW is its own special hell. Last year they had a goofy system for drop offs. For security, you all get funneled over that bridge. The expert lines are worst because everyone thinks that they are an expert... and they're not.

Funny on the departure drop off, I've done the opposite in DEN when weather gets bad, flights get stacked and the pick up clogs up with people unfamiliar with the utility of a cell phone to check arrivals and contact their pick ups.

As a parent myself, I can say that the thought has occurred to me on more than one occasion.

Nah, of course not. The TSA isn't in the security business, it's in the money-grab business.

I would hate the loss of life that would occur - and I do not think irony would be the correct word in those circumstances - but the TSA being the root cause for a load of terror related deaths would be well ------ something.

No time to pull a direct quote, but, many of us have posted references to the TSA clearly stating that they aren't responsible for "security" outside airside. They have even gone on record stating that they aren't responsible for securing the airport perimeter -- usually when some clown drives onto the tarmac and starts checking out some of the flight hardware. I also believe they said they weren't responsible for securing the landside check-in line when a guy shot a bunch of people at the TBIT at LAX a few years ago.

The only thing the TSA says they are responsible for is checkpoint and checked baggage drug busts.
