Are HHMD making a comeback?

I've read comments in various places that the HHMD are making a comeback in PreCheck lines, especially for travelers with implants.

Can anyone confirm this?

I saw one at RDU last October hidden away in a corner behind the ETD swab machine.

Has anyone here cared to research the TSA purchase/supply contracts in relation to the HHMD?

A rather interesting way to follow the TSA is to follow the money.

There's no way they brought these out of storage at DFW, they had to buy new, right?

I don't know for sure at this point but I have some suspicions that I want to check out before I make a comment about what happened with the ones purchased some years back.

In a very basic search of the government's Federal Business Opportunities website, I don't see any new bids within the last year.

I got bionic knees in September, and I have yet to be checked with a hand held, Pre or otherwise. It's always a choice of MMW (if they have one) or full-body-remove-shoes patdown. (Yes, when I set off the WTMD in Pre they make me take off my shoes and send them through before they do the patdown.) So far the same at DAL, HOU, SAT, AUS, FLL, MSY. I'd love it if they brought HHMDs back!

If these truly are coming back, wonder if you can request a supervisor and explain that they HHMD you elsewhere. It's probably at least worth the ask?

I have mentioned it at HOU. The screener looked at me like I was nuts. She even said policy doesn't allow them to use the handhelds, because they don't resolve anything. She told me they would still have to pat down the area in question because the metal that sets it off might be a prohibited item.

I guess this may be a YMMV kind of thing. I'm at HOU again this week so I'll try with a different screener. We'll see what they say at CRP, too. If I have time, I'll request a supervisor and get their comments.

This is interesting. I think I'll start asking at all of them and report back.

Could be fun. I need something new to entertain myself when I travel. Sometimes I miss the old days when I got to rant over the backscatters.

These days, I've seen them used to inspect religious headwear for concealed metal objects.

Not necessarily, High Heels of Mass Destruction are found in many locations worldwide, and have been the downfall of many.

Are you sure about this? They bringing the wands back?

This mean no more patdown? No more bodyscanner?
