Paper Plane = Terrorist?

Impressive model of a Boeing 777 took 10,000 hours to build. It's a fascinating article of a man with consummate skills and patience:

One quote in the article makes me wonder if the government and the TSA have been successful with the "he must be a terrorist" meme because he's "interested in airplanes." Or is the general public so terrified of terrorists that any interest in airplanes HAS to be someone with nefarious intent?:

Another obvious question these days: has he been tackled to the sidewalk by an FBI agent as a suspected evil genius terrorist in training?
"No -- although I do get asked that a lot."

It is not an obvious question at all. Only scared sheeple who should not leave their homes would ask that a lot. Or media morons trying to keep pushing a story.

The only 'obvious' question is does this guy have a girlfriend, but hey, everyone needs a hobby.

For those of you who don't want to click the link and scroll through the pictures, here's a shot of the interior of the airplane:

Each economy class seat, for instance, took 20 minutes of cutting, folding, fiddling and gluing -- and those of us who fly economy know there are a lot of seats.
The fold-out wombs of business class devoured up to six hours of Iaconi-Stewart's labor each.
First class "suites" -- hey, there's a reason people shell out for them -- took eight hours a go: an average working day.
That's a lot of work for a potential "terrorist." What ever happened to the days of skipping all the model building and smuggling aboard a gun or knife? Thank you TSA!

Now imagine what would happen if he tried to bring his model plane with him ON the plane. Maybe he could bring a few flashcards with words like "bomb" or "gun" in Arabic just for effect.

Very impressive model. But, what does this have to do with " Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate"?

If you notice the quote in the opening post, I thought it would be interesting to expand on the whole idea of being a labeled a terrorist for doing simple things such as building model airplanes. After all, we've discussed Arabic flash cards and reading books about airplanes in this forum and how that relates to the checkpoint experience.

But hey, if you don't think it's appropriate, just click on that little-old exclamation point at the side of the screen and a moderator will move it forthwith.

Seems to me you are trying to make a checkpoint/TSA story out of something that isn't one. The Arabic flash cards incident was something that actually involved a checkpoint and TSA. Not a "what if someone took this incredible model to the airport?" story. Just saying.

Sure, that's your right to think so, though I disagree with you since you seem to keep avoiding the quote in the first post.

But hey, that exclamation point to the left is just waiting for you to click on it. Instead of continuing to contribute to a post you don't believe belongs by whining about it, just push the button already.
