A knife? Couldn't care less.
Furthermore, the act of a very small number of individuals should not cause the rest of us to be unnecessarily strip-searched. The Shoe Carnival is a disgusting, un-American demonstration of idiocy, mandated by idiots "in charge" of TSA.
This is an excellent opportunity to defund the Shoe Carnival and the disease that is TSA.

Oh, Heavens to Betsy! My stars a knife!
The article linked admits that the knife had 3.5" blade. Which is not a prohibited item anyway.
What a bunch of pansies people have become.
I hope that this pax was arrested for "artfully concealing" a perfectly acceptable item.

Because next time that knife might be a screwdriver a scary bad person might use to remove the wings of the plane.
I'm with Spiff. A person that tries to say Hi to his friend Jack using a 3.5-inch knife is going to have his a$$ force fed to him. This is still a joke (that still flies over the head of millions of Mr. and Mrs. Peepants throughout America).
While the first half of the article is a joke, there is at least some balance:
Sometimes?!?!
Ding, ding, ding. They miss weapons ALL THE TIME. And how many planes fall out of the skies because of it? Please, Mr. Bob, explain again how this tiny knife is a real threat to aviation and our Nation full of "Free and Brave" people?

NEWSFLASH: TSA Spokesman Bob, in a nationally televised press conference, announces the huge "catch we found in the shoe." Bob used the event to push for additional TSA funding, citing a recent study "that the little knife might have actually been an improvised nuclear device in disguise."
While the TSA often catches people carrying illegal items, the TSA's practices might sometimes seem a bit ridiculous. Recently the TSA detained and traumatized a three-year-old girl in a wheelchair. They took away her stuffed animal and said that they had to swab her wheelchair for explosive materials. They girl was left in tears and said she didn't want to go to Disney World anymore. The TSA agents also scolded the parents for filming the incident, which is legal to do. The agents told the parents that it was illegal.
The TSA also misses weapons sometimes. This past fall, the TSA failed to spot not one, but two loaded guns. The passengers were able to fly with the weapons and weren't discovered until after the flight.

I'm infinitely more worried about catching a cold on board than I am about that knife making it on board. That knife isn't going to vanquish a secured cockpit door, and anyone who tries to use it to force compliance from pax or FAs will, as ScatterX says, get pummeled.

Unscrew the fastener and now you have the equivalent of two knives.

Why is it TSA will never talk about the scissors potential to be used as a weapon? Do they already know that TSA security plans are not based on real security?

Between the 3.5 " knife with an odd washer like handle and your scissors with a nice large handle the scissors present a much greater threat than the knife.

they can be 4 inches from the fulcrum and detachable into blades. One should want the longest shank possible to extend reach.

Yes, we all know about the scissors. Thank our management for riddling policy with exemptions rather than just lifting certain bans of similar items... But in an org culture whereby following orders is more important than accomplishing the mission- discretion is exercised at your own peril (particularly if you've made the whistleblower list).
