Pistole to Unveil Nationwide Security Changes Today (Thursday)

I was reading the article about AUS getting Pre-Check, and noticed this:

Southwest Airlines, which has about 38 percent of the business at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, should join the program later this year, said Pistole, who is in Austin this week to announce the expansion. Pistole on Thursday will unveil other changes in security procedures nationwide.
Any thoughts? Mandatory MMW (doubtful, though you never know). New pat down procedures?

It's seldom a good thing when Pissant crawls out from under his rock to speak.

All I've seen from the TSA lately is good news. AUS, MEM, RDU, BNA and CLE all getting PreCheck by 01Apr (with all of these airports except RDU being fully connected beyond TSA) as well as some airports losing their NOS: http://billingsgazette.com/news/stat...014e4d06d.html

Precheck expansion announcement is here, dated 2/21/13. No news (yet) of "other changes in security procedures nationwide"

Maybe those changes are SSI...

Maybe he's going to announce better security for employees, since another expos of lax security - this one at DFW - reveals employees slipping through security without any screening while the TSA is busy with pax.

Security flaws at the Dallas/ Fort Worth International Airport are raising serious concerns about safety and just who is being hired to work on airplanes. Some believe the flying public is at risk.

Airport employees have to go through a rigorous background check to work in restricted areas of the airport. You must have a badge to open secured doors. Some airport employees are questioning why some workers are bypassing the security.

Passengers know the drill. It is all a part of flying. They must remove their electronics, shoes, jackets and belts. They must step into a scanning booth and stand for a pat down. But some airport employees say all of that scrutiny gives passengers a false sense of security because of what is going on beyond the security check point.

Or maybe he's going to announce increased security around airport perimeters, given that thieves last week managed to get across two fences and steal 1000 feet of copper wire at SEA.

Thieves stole 1,000 feet of copper wire from the approach lighting at Sea-Tac Airport.

Nah, I didn't think so. Maybe he should be striving for "copper standard" security before bragging about "gold standard."

It is probably more "managed inclusion" to avert problems arising out of the sequestration. Also, the WBI NPRM is due pretty soon.

Pistole hasn't met the brown stain standard yet.

Why can't be kept the shoes on? There is no evidence. There is no reason to remove the shoes, belts. Those passengers who had it right to kept their shoes, belts on. Because shoes policy is in the past. It's time to move on.

Eliminate the shoes policy.

PreCheck is not good news for those of us who dont qualify for it. Precheck standards should be applied to all.

^ I've considered it a "divide and con" routine from the beginning, largely to minimize complaints from the regular customers of the airlines.

Yes, 30 years late but some animals are indeed more equal than others.
