Too tall for machine

I always opt out of the body imaging machines but today I got a new response.
After I opted out they had me go through the x-ray to wait for a TSO to pat me down. After waiting a while a TSO comes up to the one waiting with me and asks "Did he set off the x-ray?", "No." "Well then let him go because he would be too tall for our machine anyway."
I happily complied and went on my way, but this has never happened to me before and I'm wondering if I can use it to my advantage in the future. I'm 6'7" an haven't ever gone through the machine so I don't know if I'm in fact too tall.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

No, but I have often wondered if there was an effective height limit (also wondered if that meant there was a 'blind spot' on the top of the head like there is on the soles of the feet).

Was it a BSX (two big boxes) or MMW (clear glass)?

Interesting, because one of the TSOs who used to post here said that if you are physically unable to 'assume and hold' the position for the NoS, you are not an evil, retaliation-deserving 'opt out'. In such circumstances, you are allegedly supposed to be sent to the WTMD.

This is just one more example of that not happening (ie, too tall for machine, so you are an 'involuntary physical/medical opt-out' and deserve to be groped).
