curious event in STL

was in STL this morning. as I made my way past the ID checker and selected a line with an active WTMD, I walked past a guy being "interviewed" by a female TSA agent. I assumed it was just the SPOT(?) just asking a couple of questions to see if she could spot him lying to her. I heard her ask where he was going, what he was doing in STL, where he went to college, (how do you spell Navarro), where was Navarro Junior College, (how do you spell Corsicana), and could he give her 3 phone numbers of people is (didn't hear city) that she could call to verify (didn't hear what). She was writing all of this down on a small pad of paper.
20 minutes later, as I stood airside watching to see if he would ever make it thru, he had 3 and sometimes 4 TSA agents talking to him. He finally walked away, went to look at the arrival/departures board, then came back to talk to 1 of the TSA guys, then he left.
any thoughts on what this could all be about?

Perhaps she recently transferred from TLV?

Could be that he didn't have ID? I've heard the process for identifying passengers without ID is relatively invasive and detailed.

Guessing he forgot his ID, didn't want to go back to get it, and REALLY needed to catch a flight, so he and TSA are going through alternate means of proving identity?

Or maybe only had a student ID and not a DL/passport/state ID card.
