Another one...

Yet another traveler apprehended when she attempted to take a prohibited weapon aboard a plane, this time a combinations flashlight/stun gun.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...est/52317080/1

And yet another one which was discovered without any need for AIT or full-body rubdown with genital contact.

I'm glad that TSA is actually stopping these things. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and minimize the threat; actual weapons like firearms, knives, stun guns, and explosives have been prohibited or restricted since long before 9/11, for a darn good reason. Hijacking aside, I don't want those weapons on planes simply because air rage always seems to be bubbling just beneath the surface, and I wouldn't want some drunken business man or sleep-deprived Jets fan going postal with a weapon on a fellow pax who reclined his seat too quickly or has his iPod headphones turned up too loud.

But I will say that the fact that so many of the recent threat items have been discovered by pre-9/11, pre-AIT screening methodologies is definitely a point in favor of using those methodologies and saving the AIT and sexual assault rubdown strictly for those situations where there is probable cause, or at the very least, articulable suspicion.

Good luck taking down a plane with a stun gun.

Nobody ever suggested that you could.

But "taking down a plane" is not the only danger that TSA is supposed to combat.

I'm not one of those nuts who thinks that the gubment ought to make life all fuzzy warm and cozy safe for everybody, but keeping major weapons like firearms, stun guns, tazers, large knives, etc. seems like a prudent move to me and always has.

Just finished emailing with our "comrades" oversea, it apparently hit their newstands as well - wow. It seemed that her trip to NY was fine (or it was overlooked as it's legal in her "home" state) but it is prohibited in NY , had she placed it with her checked luggage - which is allowed under current TSA rules - they would've leave her alone and she would not be arrested (maybe, confiscated or given the option to surrender.)

Agreed on TSA's expanding role in helping to "enforce" state & local laws in keeping America safe from any & all threats, foreign & domestic .... (hell, NO) "Now, arms out and up & be groped !"
