JFK today, T5, "new rules" ???

The slowest lines I've ever seen. "New rules today; ALL electronics MUST be out of your carryons" and then every electronics item was swabbed and checked; one in 30 people actually got through without supplemental screening.

So...is this a 1-day special? A NYC hosts the UN General Assembly special? Heck, an Ahmadinajad's in NYC today special honor?

or, horrors, is this really "new rules" implemented today???

As I called it in my thread from earlier this week, the TSA theater is in "Broadway show mode". Hopefully just a one-time occurrence.

If so, clear the whole belt, 'cause I'm gonna need it!

Laptop, camera 1, camera 2, lens, SD cards, batteries, cell phone 1, cell phone 2, flashlight...

(That is, if I actually flew anymore.)

Was it at 9 a.m.? If so, makes total sense: 9:00, 11 days after the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The symbolism of an attack at that hour and date would be very appealing.

Sounds like one of the TSOs had a spouse's or kid's birthday coming up and needed an electronic item pronto.

Look for more of this during the Christmas shopping season.

Afaic, just another case of TSO's making up the rules as they see fit and 5 hockey pucks says that the FSD at JFK has no idea that those "new rules" were being implemented

Oh, I wish you hadn't posted that!

I spend a lot of Christmases away. Several times, my travelling companions and I have made up a 'local' version of the '12 days of Christmas'.

Maybe we need one for TSA - '...on the 11th day of Christmas, the screener took from me....5 dvds, 4 batteries, 3 cellphones, 2 dollar bills....'

How many TWOs would know the difference between a hard drive and a puck?

Well, you could fill a small box with pucks and label it 'DO NOT OPEN! TOP SECRET! HARD DRIVES!' and take it to the checkpoint to see how it goes.

Goalie will have to provide the re-training on this one.
