Wrong passenger detained, knife gets through checkpoint, for a while
Now being reported on the news here in Tampa
http://www.baynews9.com/article/news...lane,-arrested
Seems someone did the job wrong there. Definite security issue if the wrong bag is caught.
Why arrested? They don't arrest people that try to carry big liquid items through security. Is it cause he got through that they could/would arrest the person, even though the process should have caught it?

so let me get this straight. if they had found the knife at the checkpoint, he could either "surrender" it or leave security and put it back in his car, without facing any consequences. But since the TSA screwed up and let him through, he gets arrested? Shouldn't it be the TSA employees who screwed up being the ones facing punitive measures?

I am not condoning the arrest mind you. I am just stating the TSA rule for LAX. The TSA misses lots of knives everyday.

Yes, that is problem. It was too many times to slip through the knives, guns, explosives and metal objects, too. No one who responsible for the behavior at airport. Some screener will be firing from the job.
