TSA Confiscated Items

This story from Salon about scissors seized in BKK. Not is the US but easily could have been.

Ten years after 9/11, airport security still not getting it
http://www.salon.com/technology/ask_...rport_security

And where these items end up, adding to the TSA coffers.

eBay is loaded with TSA confiscated merchandise (search TSA confiscated) but many items appear to be within guidelines and should not have been seized. The legitimate items were effectively stolen from their owners by TSA and are being sold on the open market.

Tempted to buy something, then leave a negative review "Sold me stolen merchandise."

The TSA doesn't confiscate items, it accepts the voluntary surrender of items where passengers do not wish to return them to their car/mail them to themselves/check them.

To the tune of $21.95 (minimum) for a $5.00 torch lighter or pocket knife

The Kentucky stuff is here. Please note that the TSA items are intermingled with regular state surplus. Which brings the question: Were the magic 8 balls confiscated or state surplus (on the second page).

KY also has a monthly surplus auction in which they sell large lots of lower value stuff by the box, usually 10 to 30 pounds of similar items.

And

Flea market dealers are the primary customers.

Of course it's Philippine airport security who gets the all time Darwin award for dealing with confiscated liquids.

I couldn't find the video on YouTube or anywhere but I've seen it somewhere before and it is hilarious.
