Hmmm, anyone ever seen an agent with a "Operational Test Piece" walking back and forth through the WTMD to test it 20 times every 24 hours?

Uh, HELL NO.

They'll likely do everything they can to find me and make an example of me.

I don't go to the checkpoints to cause any trouble. I like being just like everyone else, and if I run into a rogue screener, let what I know take over from there.

Fair guess, plausible, I just don't know. I think your scenario, my guess, and TK's guess are equally as plausible.

And your not impressed by the security protections someone in your agency used to protect this document?

ATTACHMENT 7-1: OPENING THE SCREENING CHECKPOINT
Prior to opening a TSA Screening Checkpoint, all of the following tasks must be accomplished.
TASKS: YES NO N/A

13. Required signs at the entrance to the screening checkpoint clearly displayed.

So why are WBI signage not properly placed?

TSA employees not properly doing their jobs?

sbm12 Dec 6, 2009 4:21 pm

FWIW, this seems to be the same document that was released earlier this year and as noted in this post: http://www.papersplease.org/wp/2009/...ng-procedures/. The difference is that this one has the electronic "redactions" in it rather than being a print/scan job so it doesn't actually omit the secure stuff. The redactions officially seem to make it no longer SSI but having that "redacted" data still in the document means that it likely still is SSI. Whoopsie.

Of course it was a setup! The only thing that I have found to be almost infallible is shiny stuff... preferably made of gold with rare rocks in them. That usually makes woman happy for at least 8.3 seconds, then they get mad because you spent all that money....

I'm sure it's all being done for the children. It seems a few people at TSA may be learning a valuable lesson on the differences between the newer version of Adobe Reader and the older releaes they may likely be still using.

Hey, watch it, that's how I make my living, beating the daylights out of precious metals at a bench... My work tends to be regarded as prized heirlooms, however. :p

I have the utmost respect for you! I supplement my living by restoring old beatup pieces of precious metals back to their original glory! I have even done work for some museums in the area, and love it just as much as you do!

Nah, in an organization of close to 50,000 with a relatvely high turn over rate, why did it take this long for something like this to come out? Why is SOP still mostly secre to the general population (meaning you)? I'm actually pleasantly surprised.

Beat me to it! :D

This would be fun: dress up in a suit and tie, print that checklist and put it on a clipboard, and walk around the checkpoint looking at things and ticking boxes. See if the BDOs think you're suspicious. ;)

Aww, TK, you were s'posed to think "As long as I have to go to Sears* for a new vacuum, I should go to that nice jewelry shop in the mall and get a Christmas present for my wife." ;)

*When I was a kid, if Sears didn't sell it, you didn't need it. :D

Try Foxit reader. A much smaller footprint than Adobe Reader and IMHO much more stable.

Yeah, but it's not like it was leaked by one of the 50,000 + turnover; it's on an Official Government Website.

Yes, it happens each time we open the checkpoint, or 24 hours passes, or power goes ou and on.

Nah, I think my guess has more weight to it. Why? Having worked for TSA for years, thus having done exactly what was described to help train people. About 3 monhs ago he big lady Gale was at SAT. We did nothing special (different). Business as usual.

But it is still a guess because I wasn't there. I just think I have a better idea abot what might have been happening than others.

For the wife, it doesn't have to be diamonds - something less expensive but pretty is fine. Action movies DVDs, not so much. ;)

For a 12-y-o girl, anything pink. Unless she's already at the "everything black" phase, in which case, I don't know either.

Yes, at ORD in the middle of the evening rush-hour flight bank. Four TSO, two each testing both of the WTMD arches assigned to the Premier line. They held us in those two lines (refused to let us move to other lines with four more TSO standing around riding "herd" on us) for approximately 15 minutes while the performed the test. One TSO monitored the WTMD while the other walked/waved through a large block of metal at various heights and speeds.

Thankfully she is still in the pink phase. She oscillates between being a prissy girl and beating her brother.

As for the wife I just got to the point where the kids buy her stuff with my money. I do get her chocolate every now and again but that is just to save me from the crankies.

The Screening Contract is also posted in full.

The TSA and its apologists have tried to eliminate the transparency necessary for a liberal representative democracy to function in the manner designed by the Founding Fathers of these United States of America. Doesn't it seem like it is too late for them to do that given it's already at http://cryptome.org/ at the following URL http://cryptome.org/tsa-screening.zip ?

Check out these two duties of a supervisor screener:

41) Ensure TSOs provide only their TSA nametag information when an individual requests a TSO’s personal information during, or as a result of, the screening process.

42) Conduct the procedures for checking travel documents and notifying the LEO and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), when applicable, when U.S. currency or other monetary instruments appearing to exceed $10,000 is found on an individual or their property during screening.
There's more:

2.7. PHOTOGRAPHING, VIDEOTAPING, AND FILMING SCREENING LOCATIONS

A. TSA does not prohibit the public, passengers, or press from photographing, videotaping, or filming screening locations unless the activity interferes with a TSO’s ability to perform his or her duties or
prevents the orderly flow of individuals through the screening location. Requests by commercial entities to photograph an airport screening location must be forwarded to TSA’s Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs. Photographing EDS or ETD monitor screens or emitted images is not permitted.

B. TSA must not confiscate or destroy the photographic equipment or film of any person photographing the screening location.

C. Whenever possible, x-ray machine images must not be visible to the public or press. When physical constraints prevent x-ray images from being fully protected from public viewing, TSOs must ensure no member of the public or press is in a position to observe an x-ray monitor for an extended period of time. Passengers and other unauthorized individuals must not be allowed to view EDS or ETD monitors and screens.

Without a doubt.

So will the TSA use this moment of American-friendly transparency as an item to further its agenda to unionize, or will the TSA have to settle for just unloading whatever arsenal it can at some scapegoat(s)?

Way too late.

It's already been published by the Federal Government.

It's public domain.

And it's already made its way to more than a few other websites.

Too bad for TSA. Now that the terrorists can read the SOP on the internet, now they'll have to abandon all these secret procedures and reinvent themselves with some new security theatrics.
