Moving points for more points...

I plan on closing my CSR late this week after I get the $300 travel credit used up.

I'm looking at my option for what to do with the Ultimate points in my account.

I don't have plans for upcoming travel at this time to use my Chase Ultimate points so I won't be booking through the Chase travel portal

I will probably end up moving the points to a travel partner. Most likely it will be to Marriott or United Airlines.

Are there any methods to transfer my Ultimate Rewards points from one travel partner then to another travel partner and get a bonus based upon the amount of points tranferred?

Regardless of what I end up doing, I don't recommend anyone following my plans...I always end up losing on down the road. It wouldn't surprise me if I transferred all of Ultimate Rewards to UAL and they went out of business or significantly devalued their air miles.

This doesn't directly answer your question, so I apologize, but I'll be in a similar situation in April of next year. Do you have any other Ultimate Reward earning cards? My plan is to downgrade my CSR to a Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex, but am going to transfer all my UR points to my no-annual fee Freedom card before downgrading my CSR. Then, when I actually formulate some travel plans, I'll upgrade my Freedom to a CSR/CSP and be able to transfer them out to partners again.

The only thing that would derail my plans would be if Chase stopped allowing transfers from one card to another or if they massively devalued UR points before I could transfer them out to a partner.

Don't close - just downgrade to a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. Most of us would not recommend transferring points just to move them, and personally the two options you listed (Marriott and UA) would be near the end of the list of places I'd transfer UR points.

I have:
  • Chase Ink Business Cash
  • Chase Ink Business Preferred
  • Chase Sapphire Reserved
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited
When you say that you'll upgrade your Freedom to a CSR/CSP, does that mean you won't need to apply for the CSR/CSP? I was thinking about doing something similar as you but I was going to apply for the CSP/CSP to get a sign up bonus.

I was just choosing Marriott and UA because those are the two I use the most out of the transfer options.

Which cards besides the CSR and CSP allow transfer to travel partners? I read something about a Chase Ink Plus but I don't see it listed here: https://creditcards.chase.com/business-credit-cards

INK Preferred replaced INK Plus. Both of them offer Transfers to airline and hotel partners. If you have INK Preferred you do not need to transfer now, just Combine the points from the card that you plan to close to the INK Preferred.

Wow, thanks! I thought I was going to have to apply for the Ink Plus in order to keep the points available to transfer.

I Combine points from all our cards to an INK Preferred account every month. Read more here:

I got my CSR nearly 4 years ago, so if I downgrade to a Freedom Flex/Freedom Unlimited, I could potentially apply for the CSR or CSP as a new account and earn another signup bonus. However, I am planning to apply for the Chase Ink Cash in the next 4-6 months, so I don't want to overapply for new accounts and increase the chance of being denied.

I've never had a problem upgrading a Chase card to another Chase card in the same family, assuming the account is a year old. I wouldn't earn a signup bonus, but I am mainly concerned about having transfer partners available when I decide where to transfer my UR points. I just don't want to keep paying for the CSR indefinitely to have transfer options when I can just upgrade an existing card, though this could change if Chase keeps the annual fee at $450.00 or provides a retention offer.

Well today's the 'big' day--close/downgrade my CSR.

I've tired 3 times for a retention offer and I don't feel I even got close to getting one.

Will the CSR UR points that I've earned during this statement period still post to my account if I close the CSR?

Is there a reason I should downgrade to another Chase card if it is very unlikely that I will use the card?

thanks

Retention offers are not made at the discretion of the person who answers the phone, Chases's algorithm has not selected you to receive one.

Have you Combined all the points from Sapphire Reserve to INK Preferred?

Downgrading, rather than cancelling, gives you an upgrade path to Sapphire Reserve or Preferred if your circumstances change, preserves the credit limit, and preserves the UR account to receive recently earned points. I cannot think of a downside.

That's what I was originally assuming but there were so many posts that said keep calling back and try to get the retention.
