If you do not already have one, it is recommended to sign up for an IHG One Rewards account, including a password, before applying for a credit card.

https://www.ihg.com/rewardsclub/us/en/enrollment/join

This is the NEW Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier card. It replaced the old IHG Rewards Club Select card in 2018. Existing card members were not automatically product changed to the new card. Among the many changes, the AF jumped from $49 to $89 per year.

IHG forum thread about the new cards (and grandfathered old card for those have it already):
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inte...d-options.html

For discussion prior to April 2018, see this archived thread.

Q. Where can I learn more about the annual free-night certificate associated with this card? How long are the certificates good for? Are the certificates revoked if you cancel your Chase card?

A. See Annual Free Night Cert from IHG (Rewards Club) Visa / Mastercard.

Q. Once I meet the spending requirement, how soon will I receive my bonus points?

A. Bonus points typically accrue at the close of the billing period in which you incur the corresponding charges. Points should appear in your IHG account within a few days thereafter.

NOTE: If you complete your required spending in the last 7-10 days of the statement period, the bonus may not post until the following month's statement, even if the regular per-dollar points post on the first statement. This is normal behavior for Chase and is not worth a phone call.

Q. Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

A. For answers to these and other questions, see the wiki and related discussion in the master discussion thread https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/2016194-applying-chase-business-cards-april-2020-onward.html

Q. Will the signup bonus count toward Spire Elite status?

A. No.

So it looks like you might get one more certificate that's unrestricted and still pay $49. After that you will still pay $49 but get restricted certs. Lucky you. I signed up for the new card, so I got the restricted cert for the $89 fee instead! (But with $50 credit first year, 80k points and Global Entry I'm not complaining.. just likely not sticking around after year 1)

Yeah I saw that link but was still confused lol. Your response was very easy to understand so thank you!

Okay didn't know that I would still be able to pay $49. Thought at some point I would have to switch over to one of the new cards. I keep going back and forth on getting rid of the card since now it is going to be restrictive to basically just Holiday Inns (and not even all of them!!). I liked staying at a nice hotel even 1 night of the year since I usually stay at Airbnb and lower end hotels. At this point I probably will just continue to keep the card once it goes to 40,000 points. I go back to San Diego twice a year for 1 night each and often spend the night instead of driving back home to LA. $49 for 1 night at a decent Holiday Inn Express with wifi is still cheaper than a Motel 6 I suppose.

Yes. While folks with legacy cards were getting great value, I don't think you'll still have trouble getting $49 of value out of the card at a 40k IHG hotel or less. Since anyone can buy IHG points at .6 cents per point, 40,000 points can be tagged at $240 value. You will likely be getting far less than that, but I still imagine you'll get $100-$150 of value for your $49 annual fee. Since my annual fee is $89 the value proposition is not as good, again, after the first year where I am able to get the bonus points, statement credit and Global Entry credit.
I have a similar Marriott Rewards card where I have been paying $89 every year for a relatively restricted free night -- as Marriott creeps upwards it has been difficult for me to get much more than around $100 of value out of that free night, so I am cancelling before this year's renewal.

Just my two cents .. enjoy the couple of more unrestricted certs and then as long as they don't 'force' you to upgrade keep it at $49. And if you do want the bonus points, etc, you can still apply for the new card.

There’s a lot of discussion on this in the IHG forum. Many people are keeping the old, and getting the new one too.

If you are an active IHG user, there is no reason to cancel the old card in most scenarios. The free night is well worth $49. The 10% rebate is an added bonus. The 4th night free + the 10% bonus, on top the already plentiful IHG points, makes for some cheap point stays

Chase has been known to match offers if it's been less than 90 days since you got your card. I'd send them a SM and see.

One of my readers reported success with this yesterday. He said he called first, with no success.

I called Chase to ask about my application for the Premier card and got approved during the call. Then I asked about getting the new offer; I got transferred to another agent who said I was already enrolled in the new offer because it was the current offer at the time of my approval. I'm hoping that's correct.

Got mine May 12 and Chase was willing to match the offer for me if I complete $3000 in spending before my spending deadline would have otherwise expired. Do by secure message, and you should get a message back giving those terms. You'll need to contact Chase through SM after you complete the spend requirement to get the extra 20K points--this won't self execute like getting the bonus points after completing the spend under the original terms of the card when you got it.

I sent a SM asking for the match as it was within 90 days of opening. They said I qualify, and will give me the additional 20,000 points.

Any idea how long this 100k offer will be around? I have had my eye on this card for a while now even back when it was 80k but I am holding off on applying until late September. I am still paying down another credit card that I took advantage of a 0% promo last year, will be paid off completely in September before the promo period expires and I want to wait until that other card is paid off as I'm afraid a 40% credit utilization would spook Chase on approving me for this card right now.

SF Intercontinental on Howard St - best value yet. Going rate was over $1000 since it was during Dreamforce. I called to cancel since I wanted to change it to a less busy week and was told no cancellations allowed. Use it or lose it!
Palazzo Las Vegas - the $45 + tax "resort" fee stings a bit.
Holiday Inn (express?) Santa Cruz - going rate was $350? on a Friday night. Several years ago we went to see Berlin at one of the free concerts at the Beach boardwalk.
This year we have one more "unlimited" redemption left before it expires in March 2019.... where to go (don't answer.... thinking out loud here). We feel like this will be a "hurrah" of sorts.

For $49 a year we each have the old IHG card and have always been able to find a place to use the free night. Mostly a sock drawer card it's also our "goto" card for use at Canadian Costco (where they only accept mastercard). Even with the 40k limit on future hotel redemption i'm sure we will find somewhere for the family to go for a weekend or overnight.

But didn't they stipulate that you would need to spend $3,000 (not just the $2,000 required in the 80,000-point offer) in order to get the 80,000+20,000 points, as lwildernorva mentioned a few posts back?
