Fairmont Visa conversion

I got the sapphire today and planning to cancel it. I spent more than 12k in the past year, so getting the free night cert. Does anyone know if the cancellation of the card will nullify the cert?

Once the free night cert is in your acct, it won't be canceled if you dump, or PC, the card. Your 1st sentence confuses me though.

It has been reported that Chase is automatically sending Sapphire Preferred cards to replace the discontinued Fairmont cards.

So both the free night cert after spending, and the upgrade cert with comp status won't be cancelled?
