My CSP is enrolled in Android Pay and has been so for years. The Android Pay number is issued by Bancorp, not by Chase.

You're thinking of Google Wallet, which has been around for several years and worked with just about any card. Android Pay came out last year and requires support from the bank, as does Apple Pay. For some reason, Chase supported Apple Pay but not Android Pay.

I have my Chase cards in Samsung Pay. It's pretty frustrating that it doesn't include the Ink yet, though, only the personal cards. I mostly use Samsung Pay but I'll switch to Android Pay when there's a promotion and I get something extra out of it.

Can you show a screenshot of your CSP/CSR in Android Pay? Because Android Pay just doesn't support Chase until Sept 7th. Here's the error message you get when trying to add a CSP to Android Pay:

This card can't be used with Android Pay. Your bank either isn't participating yet or doesn't support this type of card in Android Pay.

Google Wallet can use NFC.

Based on what you've said, you're using Google Wallet, which kept a card on file with Google and then used a virtual card number issued by Bancorp for purchases which were then billed back to your card on file, so it didn't matter who issued it. Your card only needed to be accepted by Google.

With Android Pay (and Apple Pay), the card issuer (Chase, Amex, etc.) generates a unique device account number (DAN) which is used in place of your permanent card number (PAN), which is why the issuing bank must support it. When you make a purchase, the DAN is sent through the payment network and linked back to you by the bank.

Android Pay has also only been available for about a year, so the fact you say your CSP has been registered for years means it can't be Android Pay. It can only be Google Wallet.

It wouldn't have made sense to support Samsung Pay (which they have since it came out) if that were the case though. My guess is that Chase saw the numbers from Apple Pay and thought that they'd see better results by supporting the service that works with nearly every terminal instead of just the upgraded ones. Eventually Google made an acceptable deal with Chase and here we are.

BTW Chase Pay is still a thing but as far as I can tell it only works on a couple of websites that I'll likely never buy anything from.

I originally registered it with Google Wallet. It then carried over to Android Pay, and Android Pay says that the number was generated by Bancorp. Actually, I may have had to re-register the cards, but in any case, it accepted the CSP and created a virtual card number generated by Bancorp. The other cards, when carried over, now carry numbers generated by the issuers.

Aha, that's probably how you got it to work. Android Pay flat out refuses to accept a direct-entered Chase card.

I added my CSR yesterday. I was actually just going through all my monthly recurring charges and moving them to the new card, didn't realize Android Pay had previously not accepted Chase cards. It seemed to take the CSR just fine, even had a nice stock photo of my card in the app.

I added my CSR card to Android Pay yesterday, and didn't even know it was a new thing until reading this thread! I did it because using Android Pay on Uber gives you 50% off (up to $5) per ride for 10 rides through 10/15.
