PayPal

I have a homestay program set up for this summer and I have to pay the merchant $6000. I'm thinking that'd be a good way to hit my $5000 target on my Chase Ink Bold card. The problem is the merchant isn't set up to handle credit cards. Can I use the card to PayPal him the money and would that still count towards my $5000 target? Does anyone know?? I think I may also incur a fee for this as well. Any advise would be great. Thanks
Sam

If the merchant accepts Paypal, you should be OK.

I believe that the merchant will incur a 2.9% + 30 cent fee. The merchant probably pays this whether you use a CC or not.

Keep in mind though that the merchant may have chosen not to take credit cards because he doesn't want to aborb CC fees, and he may feel the same about Paypal. You might have to offer to gross up the payment amount to take Paypal.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I have to see if he's keen on signing up as a merchant or not. If I wire money to him through my credit card sans the merchant designation, would I still be accredited the mileage?

I'm not sure what you mean by wiring money through a credit card, but PayPal purchases (without designating the merchant) does post as purchases with Chase credit cards.

What about loading BB (various cc options), then writing a check so the merchant doesn't get hit with any CC fees?

Yes, that's what I meant. Buying something from someone through PayPal and whether that would count if the person in question wasn't set up as a merchant.

y0y0Yoo, what do you mean by loading BB (various cc options)??

No, BB can not be funded with a credit card. See their website for a list of funding sources.

Wrong question, but correct answer given to it though. BB is NOT like AP, you must actually go out and get the VRs.

Here's a link to a thread where there are a bunch of people willing to type it all out. Hope that will help. Otherwise, spend 10 minutes reading the thread I provided above as it will be the easiest and you will be able to hit your spend and write a check.

Part of my problem is that I am currently in Japan, although i receive my credit cards at my dad's US address (he's also out of the country at the moment). Until July, I cannot physically do anything in the USA.

With regards to your post above, I have a hard time reading them. What is AP, for instance? I get BB and I get VR (after some struggles).....
