===============================================Bes t public available offer:
Two free nights at any tier 1-4 Ritz Carlton Hotel after $3k spent. Annual fee of $395 NOT waived. https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/2CN

$300 Annual Travel Credit
"Make the most of your trip with a $300 annual travel credit to use for baggage fees, Global Entry fees, seat upgrades, access to your preferred airport lounge and more. Simply use your card for these expenses and call us at 1-855-896-2222, and we will refund the charges after your flight."

Actual T&C language, as of 08.22.15:"Only the following types of non-ticket Net Purchases qualify for this offer: airline lounge day pass, or towards a yearly lounge membership of your choice; airline seat upgrades; airline baggage fees; in-flight internet/entertainment; in-flight meals; Global Entry fees."

As of 1/2/2015, Credit for these charges are based on TRANSACTION (purchase) date, not posting date. If you made an eligible purchase before the end of the year, even if it doesn't post until the following year, you can still receive credit for the previous year. See post #1268

DO NOT attempt to get all $300 in one transaction. Most CSRs will question what incedential charge would be so high. Instead, get multiple smaller gift cards which line up with fees that airline charges. Make sure that whatever amounts you choose, you have an explanation ready for each. For example, AA overweight baggage fee is $150. $50 is first checked bag for 2 ppl. $75 is in the range of upgrade fees, etc.

Reimbursed:

AA e-Giftcards
Southwest eGiftcards - As of 12/30/14 Chase can distinguish between "incidental" and gift card purchase. YMMV depending on CSR.
Delta Giftcards (YMMV)
$78 AA Award flight taxes reimbursed
$22 BA Award flight taxes reimbursed
~$150 AA award fees, taxes, fuel surcharge reimbursed
$246 AA award fees, booking fee, all reported as upgrading to busn award
United Flight Taxes
Spirit Big Front Seats
Spirit Onboard Food and Drinks
DL Ticket Change fee $300
$210 DL first class up-fare
$300 of a $525 AA Admirals Club annual membership
$50 DL Transfer miles fee (2k miles plus $30 fee)
~$160 SQ award fees (circa 2014)
$70 upgraded seats on AA
$34 US award fees
$34 BA Award fees
$90 oneway ticket on AA (paid additional $90 with AA e-gc from last year)
$84.50 x 2 AA award fees
$150 B6 change fees er...umm..."seat upgrades"
$75 UA gift registry (no longer works as of Summer 2015)
$49.95 Bags VIP charge. It surprised me that it went since it comes up as BagsVIP and not an airline. I told the CSR it was AA's partner for baggage delivery and that I was (honestly) unsure if it would work.
UA Gift Registry $150 (one worked, one didn't) -- no longer works as of Summer 2015
$274 BA seat selection for 2 J class seats, LAX-LHR (Jan 2016)

Not Reimbursed:
$315 Avianca ticket charge
United giftcards
$150 AA award redeposit fee (YMMV)
UA Gift Registry $150 (one worked, one didn't)

The deal for 140K points is dead. Chase has replaced it with a complimentary night stay at any Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton hotel after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months, available here. As of February 12, 2015, there IS A BETTER known public offer (see below).

The 70K offer is long gone.

[EXPIRED] Active link found on blog 12/16 for 140K offer: https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/offer140k
Many have applied through this link only to find the application was assigned to a different promo for 2 free nights instead of points. Calling JP Morgan Chase CS has indicated they are aware of this issue and CSRs are expecting the 140k points to be honored but no one in this situation has actually received the 140k points as of Dec 28, 2014.

[EXPIRED] As reported by ghitt87: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22807838-post16.html
Call 1-888-846-7004 to apply.
Mention these RSVP:
F5BP - 140k points after 2k spend in 3 months. Annual fee of $395 not waived first year. - DEAD 9/25
F53K - 70k points, $395 waived first year.

I wasn't targeted, but called and used the RSVP code (5/2). Just act like you got it in the mail.

Keep in mind reducing your credit limit to such a low amount will make it tough to reach the $10k spend threshold required to keep the Gold status another year without messing up your credit score with a high utilization.

You should be able to keep it in check by making payments mid-cycle but it's far from ideal.

Is the Ritz AF trick still working?

My AF posted in Mar, and I reduced my CL to $1.5k in Apr, it's been almost 2 weeks and no refund. Does this work for the first time my AF post, or only during my first anniversary year? I opened my Ritz last year in Mar.

This only works on first year for those who have to pay AF on first year.

I think most of us don't care about the gold status. Get the 140k points, $300 in travel credit and the $395 annual fee back. Then, cancel the card at 12 months.

Depending on how much you stay at marriotts, that gold status can be more valuable than the $300 airline credit.

True. I just got back from Europe and it did get us free breakfast and free Internet.

However, when deciding which hotel loyalty program to go with, I decided to go with Hilton over Marriott (even though I think Marriott hotels are better,) because it's so easy to collect Hilton HHonor points.

I didn't feel like spending $40k on the Marriott rewards credit card to get 1 free night at a top tier Marriott hotel.

Why not both?

My plan is:
- open card in December 2014, pay annual fee (done)
- get $300 travel credit in December 2014 (done)
- get $300 travel credit throughout 2015 (done)
- spend $10k throughout 2015, securing Gold status until December 2016 (done)
- get December 2014 annual fee refunded by lowering credit limit (done)
- pay annual fee in December 2015
- get $300 travel credit in January 2016
- cancel the card in January 2016, get the December 2015 annual fee refunded as a result (less than 60 days)

End result: $900 travel credit, 151K points and 2 years of Gold status for $0 in annual fees and only $10k spend. Lounge access and badass metal card are just the cherry on top.

.

Don't you have to keep your credit card active to maintain the gold status for the following year , even if you spend 10k the previous year ? At-least that was my assumption so far.

Crazy if you don't go for gold. Unless you stay at courtyards, which suck anyway, gold will get you tons of free food and drinks. It's as good as Hilton gold, which is great! In fact, I'm at the pool at the Ramses Hilton, Cairo right now and don't pay a cent for any food or drinks cuz I'm gold. Same with Marriott. So unless you really don't ever stay at marriotts and only use the points for the 280K+ airline transfers, you're crazy not to go for the gold!

I got this in FEB 2015

When will I see next year's AF?

Can I claim $300 credit before the fee comes up?

The $3k you spent to get the bonus points (140k) in first 3 months of card opening counts for $10k spend to get gold status for the following year? Spend $7k to get gold in 2016?

This card gives only 1 devalued marriot point for regular purchases so hate to use this card for any purchases and if you lower your CL to $1k, even harder.

Everything is relative. To me, the real value of the Ritz card is the status. I travel reasonably often; however, I cannot always guarantee that I will make Marriott Gold or Platinum (even with the 15 nights from Marriott card) or United Silver. Sometimes, I may make United Gold. Other times, I may make nothing. The Ritz card guarantees that I can make Marriott Platinum and United Silver. While Silver is only an incremental benefit over just having a UA credit card and paying for E+ seats, UA Silver lets me upgrade to first class on domestic flights without an upgrade copay, saving me $150 per trip. Normally, all of this would be at the expense of a better points system. In other words, I have to spend a lot on the Ritz card at the devalued 1-point-per-dollar rate. However, I really don't redeem points or miles (except for first-class upgrades) for anything except stays at Marriott properties, especially Residence Inns. I get multiroom suites in places where there are no such options for any other chain. Thus, even if I got a card that gave better rewards, such as a TYP, MR, or UR card--and I have all of these anyway--I would redeem for Marriott stays, which makes the value equal to Ritz card. Also, I get way better than 1 cent per point at the properties I redeem. Generally, I get 1-2 cents per marriott point.

Will chase continue to waive the annual fee every year if my limit is $1000? Just got my fee refunded for dropping my limit.

Apparently not. See posts 2098 and 2103.

Has anyone increased their credit limit after getting the refund?

I would like to go for the $10K and Gold, but having only a $1K credit limit makes it awkward.
