One Night in SJO: Help, Please! :)

Preface: I read a lot of Costa Rica threads, but didn't find an answer to my questions. Please help me, if you have some answers.

I will have one night in SJO later this month. I arrive at 9am and leave at 9am the next day. I am thinking of staying in the Radisson Europa. There is a good rate with high speed internet access. The rate is about US$150. How is that hotel? How is the location?

Also, what about dining? I don't mind going out for nice/fun dinners alone. Any suggestions? I like meat!

Last question: How far from SJO to Radisson? Is a taxi safe from the airport? My mother lives in MEX, and I know that there are some taxis to take and some not to.

Thanks!

Look in Global Pass/Latin Pass forum for info. There are a few nice hotels near airport, Marriott is Deluxe and Hampton (I think) very good. SJO is quite a way from town -- so if only for a night, consider airport hotel. If one wants a low key place at much cheaper rates, the Riveria is ok - and has airport pick up.

I think taxis are safe - and tons of them as you come out of airport. Airport has one new section of gates and new ticketing area - but rest is still the old "hole".

If anyone is there for 6 or so hours, you can get out of airport with transit and return without paying the departure tax. I think 8 hr. may be max before one must pay. Again, check out Latin Pass forum.

Hi Benjamin,
I just got back from a week at the Radisson, I've spent 2 weeks there in the last month. If I were you, I'd spend the night at the Airport Hampton Inn, it's very close to the airport, clean and comfortable. The Radisson is off of downtown and traffic in San Jose can be a real pain. As far as a good dinner, I would highly recommend Le Monastere. I had dinner there the other night, the food was very good as was the service and the view is beautiful. About $70-80 for 2 with drinks. Any cab driver can get you there.
Enjoy
Phil
